Snoring!!!!

Ok, my DH is a snorier and a bed hogger! His snoring has gotten worse in the last month. Two nights ago I slept on the couch in the other room, I couldn't bear it anymore. This has caused me to get horrible nights sleep. My Father was a horrible snorier and eventually got put on a machine to monitor it at night. My DH is scared of getting put on a machine.

Anyway, does anybody know of any good sleep clinics in Suffolk or doctors that specialize in this? Does insurance cover this being he snores because he has sleep aptnia? (Pardon the spelling, its been a rough morning being I GOT NO SLEEP LAST NIGHT!).

I went to a pulmonoligist (sp?) who then recommended me to go for a sleep study (I actually had to go for 2). I was told I had severe sleep apnea and was prescribed a CPAP machine (it helps you breath at night)

It was given to me only a few days before I has my gastric bypass surgery, and when I lost weight the snoring stopped. I do know quite a few people that use the machine and it really helps them.

I hope your husband gets some help. Sleep apnea is a scary thing!!

thanks all. I'm really looking for names of doctors.

I do know that if my DH lost some weight, the apnea wouldn't be as bad. We both are trying to cut some lbs as we go along.

I don't have any info re. suffolk hospitals, but the CPAP machine is covered by insurance.

DHs snoring was horrible, and I eventually convinced him to go for a sleep study. He has sleep apnea which can be very dangerous. If a person doesn't get enough oxygen, they can have a stroke; it can even be fatal. Getting the machine saved our marriage and even his life!!

Your DH definitely needs to go. good luck!!

Yikes! This doesn't sound like fun. Tell your DH to lay off the Cold Stone and mabye he will sleep better

Kerry, Scott has sleep apnea and he uses the machine. It is great. He went to a place in the city when he lived there, but they have a location out here. I will have to ask him the name b/c I don't remember. If not for that machine, I might never sleep in the same bed with him. I need my sleep and when he snores it is not just the noise, it is the vibration of the entire bed, which is not a turn on at that point!!!!!!!! It was definitely covered by insurance.

DH has sleep apnea and uses a machine to sleep.

He did a sleep study and they determined his sleep apnea. Now a company provides him he machine and any parts necessary.

It has helped our lives big time! I know how you feel.

I think DH did the sleep study at either Mather in Port Jeff or Stony Brook. I will ask him. Insurance covered everything.
