spinoff to "you're so skinny, i hate you"
ok, if you're skinny and you know it thats great...especially if you're happy about it and have no insecurity issues or anything.
but when you're overweight and having a conversation with a skinny person about going to they gym and you say that you need to lose 30 lbs and she says to you "OMG im so fat i need to lose 3 lbs", its a bit frustrating. she's just rubbing it in my face and it is very disheartening. i know not ALL skinny people do this, just this particular one and its killing me!
sorry to vent.

I over heard a conversation that went like that and the thin person said they wanted to lose 3, 5 pounds whatever it was before it became 10 pounds. It made sense. I wish I had that self control.

I get what you are saying, em. whenever the girl next to me starts to get down on her weight, i tell her to stop. i don't chime in about this or that on me, i just tell her that she needs to stop putting herself down.

Re: spinoff to "you're so skinny, i hate you"
i know 3lbs seems like nothing but coming from a thin girl who has had to lose 3lbs it is not easy.
i'm used to eating pretty much whatever i want and this past year i have seen my body change and my metabolism slow a bit.
therefore- i gained 4lbs after the wedding and 4lbs to me is a big deal.
it took me almost 5 months to lose those 4lbs- i was eating right and exercising and the weight just wouldnt come off.
so i guess in some sort of retrospect 4 lbs could be 20 to someone else..

Re: spinoff to "you're so skinny, i hate you"
I would never say that I hate a skinny person for being skinny. Especially if it is someone who just happens to have a small frame and just built that way. It doesn't mean that this person eats better than me or works out more, it might just simply be the way that person is. On the other hand....if the person works really hard to be skinny, then 3 pounds is a BIG deal primarily because 3 pounds can easily turn into 10! Ok..I am blabbing. I hope I make sense

I kind of understand what you're saying...I mean everyone has their own personal battles..
But..please don't take this the wrong way...but if you were to engage in conversation with someone needing to lose 30 or more pounds, and you were to say "i really need to get this 3 pounds off!!" well, its a lot different. In my opinion. Not that you do that, but you know the point I'm getting at.
When I had 40 pounds to lose years ago the last thing I wanted to hear was an already thin person talking about their few pounds they wanted to get rid of...

I know what you mean, I have this friend who is skinner then me and shes always saying how fat she is and how she needs to get to the gym, bla, bla, bla, and I'm sitting there like "I wonder what she thinks of me"--lol and I'm not fat. I dont think its nice either, when skinny people say that, its almost like a slap in your face.

Yes Emily, I hate that too, or when they tell you everything they just ate....
I had a grape for breakfast, a salad with a lemon wedge squeezed on it and a 2 oz grilled chicken breast......
This, after you just housed half a pizza and washed it down with a chocolate milkshake!!!!!!
I guess I am especially sensitive being pregnant and getting chubby and my BF who's a size 4 isn't "eating potatoes until her wedding" in APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have to admit, i say that to my friends sometimes- i have to get to the gym.. and just about all of my friends are bigger than me- slightly-but i have a small frame and i work hard to be the weight i am.
but in my case, i am not looking at them as if they are fat- cause they look beautiful in the body they are in.. it is me thinking i look like crap, not anyone else..
but i can understand how it could be taken as a slap in ur face.

Re: spinoff to "you're so skinny, i hate you"
its a major slap in the face. I've had it done to me on numerous occassions. My one friend is a triathalons and will sit there and say she needs to work out, she shouldn't have a cookie, etc. I tell her to shhh, because she may be looking for support, but in my mind, its a slap in the face BIG time. I generally only discuss weight with two of my friends that I know can relate to it with me because they are around the same size as me.

Re: spinoff to "you're so skinny, i hate you"
I'm sorry that your friend is being insensitive. I think in general people tend to be harder on themselves than they are of other people. And gaining 3 or 5 pounds may make her feel "fat" in her own eyes. I get that way too. But I try not to put myself down to other people. It sounds like she is fishing for compliments. Is this someone you could work out with or go for a walk with? Maybe direct the conversation into something more positive so that you don't feel the pressure to help her self esteem while her comments may be hurting yours.

Re: spinoff to "you're so skinny, i hate you"
I have always been thin and I gained about 5 to 7 lbs. within the last year. It's not the actual weight that upsets me, it's that a lot of my pants and jeans are now too tight and uncomfortable. I hate that I have to buy some new pants! I would like to lose a few lbs. just so my pants fit better.
So I mention to a friend that I am trying to eat healthier and exercise more. She asked me why and I told her. Well, the response I got was "you needed to gain weight anyway, you were looking to unhealthy!"
It just upset me because I really am unhappy about needing to buy new pants - I like my jeans and I am not made of money!!!!!
Needless to say, I don't talk about it anymore!

Re: spinoff to "you're so skinny, i hate you"
Having had to lose (and lost) over 100 pounds, I would be considered successful at losing weight, but knowing my body would look that much better if I lost 10-15 more kills me because I just can't get there and frankly, I don't look fat. 10-15 pounds in the grand scheme of things isnt a lot compared to where I was, but it still stinks that I cant lose it. If a heavy person told me I didnt need to lose weight, Id be just as angry. And it happens.
Another thing that weighs heavy on me (no pun intended) is that after a huge weight loss, I still have to walk around with droopy skin on my midsection. I wear a size 10 but with skin removal, not only would the weight come off, but I could feasible shed another size or two. My abdomen looks like that of a woman who just had a baby except I have no baby. Pretty. Essentially I am a work in progress. The skin will not be removed until DH and I are finished having children.
Nobody knows everyone's story and the grass is always greener on the other side. I had recently told a story on the TTC or IF board about a woman at my gym who had complimented my on my figure (and it is far from perfect). She told me she gained 85 pounds with and after having her son. I told her that if 85 pounds would give me a child, I'd take the 85 pounds.
Many people arent happy with what they look like. If it isnt weight, it is a nose, or curly hair or freckles or something else that someone else would love to have.

Well, if you have been skinny all your life and especially if you are short and all of a sudden you gain 5 lbs, it might feel like 10 or 20.
