Freddy update

So much has been going on. He is almost ready to go to rehab and the place that was going to accept him re-negged on the deal. They didn't know how he was going to pay..he's got great insurance..very long story but hopefully it will get resolved.

Went to see Jamaica (Brady Institute) Excellent facility and a Level 1 trauma center. Fred is still pretty medically complicated so I feel he would be better there.

Both facilities are just waiting for him to be medically stable for release and it will probably come down to who is ready for him first. Since Southside did this to us I feel like I would be better off getting him into Jamaica.

If none of the facilities accept him then he would go to a skilled nursing facility and I feel that's just no place for a 44 year old. He is functioning at a low level albeit better every day and I hope they can help him. My heart will break if we have to go that route. These skilled nursing facilities do offer rehab but at a lower level and not as aggressive. I feel if Freddy has a chance at getting better he should get aggressive rehab. The doctors think so too. I called the Cardiologist last night and we spoke about it. He called me at 10pm. Nice doc. He said he would try to hold Fred there until the rehab places finally accepted or not accepted and then we would have no choice but the nursing home..

Now I'm leaving for vacation on Sunday. Hopefully this will work out before I leave. If not, I will be so stressed out thinking he will be transferred while I'm gone. My cousin offered to come to LI and oversee everything. I may have to take him up on it. My dad says to ask the hospital to hold him another week and I think that's just not fair to him. Why should he stay there just because I'm on vacation.

I'm exhausted, frustrated and ready for a vacation. Today I have spend all day getting our passports expedited and I have to go back to the post office because we did something wrong in the packet. That's also a long story.

There has to be a way this will work out. I've been crying and a mess for two days now non-stop. I'm barely functioning

Two good things: Fred actually added and reasoned yesterday. I told him I got him some new T shirts for rehab and he said that we should get the same shirts...four of us..me, the kids and him..he said 3 for you guys and one for me. that's higher reasoning! Also he sat at the edge of the bed by himself with no help.

More good stuff: He talked to the cardiologist while he was having his angiogram yesterday (I didn't tell you guys that yet-everything is fine) and the doc said that he is getting better. Much more coherent and making more sense.

Two not so good things: he thinks he played centerfield for the Yankees for 21 years..then he says he had a heart attack (which he did) and can't play anymore. I was laughing at him and I told him well maybe not centerfield but maybe you could play DH! I coudn't resist. He cried last night when he saw his kids. I think it brought him back to reality about where he really is. he did mention to the older one that he has a wine store..his son told him he didn't have a wine store. Where is he coming up with this stuff?

I told him Clemens was coming back to the Yankees and he said, well, Babe Ruth did too. He told the nurses about Clemens yesterday. I guess he is retaining albeit confused.

I know it's easier said than done, but please enjoy your vacation.
Either take your cousin up on the offer or talk to his ex about taking care of him/things while you are gone.

Definately go on vacation. You so deserve to be good to yourself!!! Things will be okay, even though you are on vacation and take your cousin up on the offer.

I'm glad to hear that things are getting better with your brother!

As for his stories at the end. When my grandmother was in the hospital for congestive heart failure she would come up with some doozy's when she was there. I'm not sure if she was on meds or coming off of them, but there were some funny stories:

Kirstie Alley was in the hospital with a pack of huge dogs.

The nurses were having a party in the hallway and there was someone laying on the stretcher dead.

Some others too - something about a sand storm and she was always mad at everyone. It was so sad, but at the same time you have to chuckle at them.

My grandmother remembers every story she told, we laugh about it now.

lets see if my passports come back..I just spent the entire day doing an expedited passport thing with this agency. I hope it gets done.

I'm beyond out of my mind. I didn't do any work today and I hope I don't get my arse fired.
