I have a question for dentists too! Is it true that if your wisdom teeth have come out BUT they arent bothering you that you still HAVE to have them taken out? I feel like my dentist is just trying to find things wrong with my mouth to make more money! They dont bother me so why do they HAVE to come out???

I only have the top 2 and my dentist said in less they over grow.

Like if they keep dropping down because there is nothing under them as I don't have bottom ones then they would have to come out but not otherwise.

My dentist is really lazy thou. I don't like him.

Well, to kind of answer the Wisdom Teeth question...

A little over a year ago I went to the Dentist for something unrelated and he told me (after looking at my x-ray) that I needed to go to an Oral Surgeon and have my Wisdom Teeth taken out.

I found this very odd b/c my Wisdom Teeth NEVER ever bother me or hurt me at all. And I knew the Dentist was not trying to just get money out of me b/c he is not an Oral Surgeon and I had to go and find one... So, he made no money off of that at all.

Then, I went to an OS and he explained that even though they never bothered me and they are completely impacted (not interfering with any other teeth) that I had to have them taken out because there are nerves in my cheek and jaw that started to grow towards my wisdom teeth and were very close to going INTO the WT.

So, he said that this wouldn't be a problem as long as, down the road, I never had to have them removed-- BUT, if one day they start bothering me and they have to remove them then I'm in trouble because they will have to cut those nerves and it could cause major nerve damage-- meaning, I could lose feeling in my mouth, tastebud sensory, my lips and chin could feel numb all the time, etc.

So, he took them out and that was that. But that was the reason why so yes, in some instances even though WT are impacted and not bothering you at all-- you still, sometimes, need to have them taken out.

I can't wait until we evolve and no longer have WT at all

lots of people don't have them already. MY 19 yr old son doesn't have them.
Most people should have their wisdom teeth removed, it can only be decided on a case by case basis by a doctor after reviewing your x-rays.

I still have all of my wisdom teeth, and in fact, I have that exact problem DaniRella's oral surgeon warned her about.

The roots of of my wisdom teeth are so long and deep, they wrapped around the nerves by my jaw. Every dentist, oral surgeon and orthodontist I have seen in the past 7 years all said no surgeon would want to go near my wisdom teeth. I would without a doubt have nerve damage and partial paralysis in my face. Thankfully my wisdom teeth don't bother me. I hope they never do.
