Well, he's still in the hospital
He was supposed to be discharged on Tuesday but no-go. Then, they said Thursday AM, and we were all ready to go until the cardiac physician came by and examined him and said no, he has to stay longer.
I understand, and I'm appreciative that they are being overly cautious before discharging him to rehab, but at the same time, it's been 2 weeks now in the hospital and he can barely move on his own, and he's starting to feel claustrophobic, down and discouraged.
What can I do to lift his spirits while he's still there?

Thats rough, all you can really do is just keep visiting him. I don't really know how you can keep his spirits up other than keep him talking and laughing, which I realize is hard.

Sorry to hear your dad hasn't been moved yet.
I agree with the above poster. The best thing you can do is continue to visit him, I'm sure he enjoys the company. Can he be placed in a wheelchair? That way you can push him around and at least get him out of his room.

I agree with the above poster. The best thing you can do is continue to visit him, I'm sure he enjoys the company. Can he be placed in a wheelchair? That way you can push him around and at least get him out of his room.

I am - I'm visiting him everday for about 2 hours during the day. All I can say is THANK GOD for my new job - if I was still working at the firm, there's no way I would be able to take this kind of time everyday to visit him. But, I feel like I should be doing more, staying with him more - but it's hard - I work full-time at a new job, and I have a 20 month old at home, and she's starting to get really clingy because I haven't been spending as much time with her since he went to the hospital.
He'll get up and walking with a walker if the nurses help him. I told him he has to be proactive - they won't do it unless he asks, so I told him I want him to do that at least 3 times a day. He did it yesterday. I just want him to keep his spirits up so he can make a full recovery from this.

See what type of volunteers the hospital has. Sometimes they have someone who will come in and read or play games with you.

Absolutely, volunteers will come in a play games, read the newspaper and sometimes they'll even come and just visit, talk, etc. When my father was in the hospital I asked and found out volunteers will gladly do that and it was well worth it. Gave him someone else to talk to.

Whatever hobby he has, bring it to the hospital.
I know when I was in the hospital for a brief time, I wanted to sit & read my book.

They may also have a recreational coordinator that can help to keep him occupied.
