Ok - I need some fence help

We just had someone come and give us a quote for a fence.

We just picked ourselves up off the floor - I really didn't know fences could be that expensive.

We were quoted about $6000 for a fence.

We need 4 PVC panels and a double-wide gate.
The rest we are doing in Cedar Stockade - we need about 20 panels.

Should this really cost $6000?

I am sorry for my stupidity here - but I know nothing about fencing, and how much these things should cost.

We have more places coming to give us an estimate, but I just need a heads up - if this is what most of them will be quoting me.

If you don't mind - if you got your fences done recently, could you tell me how much you paid and what you got for that price?

Thank you in advance

Hello - I just had a 200' PVC fence installed with two gates - I was quoted $6200 - That was the highest quote I was given - The lowest being $5,000 - It really depends who you called...

I dont think its a bad price at all...

Gates are very expensive. We had ours done at a different time because it was $800 in itself w/ 2 panels on either side. We got 21 sections(162 ft) of privacy pvc for $4168(Roberts Fence). This included a removable section off of the street and they took down all of the old fencing for us. I hope this helps a bit.

IMOH you are being over charged for labor....Especially considering that the cedar stockade is relatively cheap.

I would go to Home Depot...see what materials are going to cost...and then take it from there...

Re: Ok - I need some fence help

You are being given a "summer" price. We waited. We were supposed to do it last summer but we did it this Spring and saved $1500 from last year price.

I had over 300ft of PVC fence and 2 gates for $6800. Each gate was $300

Wood is now extremelly expensive.

ETA: I think the quote is expensive.

See this is what we were told.
About $800 and change for the gate - we had a feeling about that when we decided to get the fence done.

Now - if we are getting about 20 sections of stockade and you got PVC - how is that work out?
I just hope some of these other places are less Chat Icon

DH priced out the stuff at Home Depot -alot cheaper - but everyone says it is not the same quality.

Def not the same quality. If you can't do the whole thing maybe you can just do the gate to spruce up the front and the fence off season for less???Call Roberts Fence in Ronkonkoma. I dealt directly with Robert and he came in the lowest of the 4 companies we called.

Wood fences are now equal if not more then PVC. Ever since Hurricane Katrina wood has been more expensive.

Re: Ok - I need some fence help

I paid $5350 for 185 feet of PVC with 1 gate. I used Precision. Best Quality fence

Wood is way over priced.

My sister paid $4700 for 180 feet of stockade fence with 1 gate from Rose

We are going to have a couple more places come and see their prices - if they are still outrageous - we are going to do the fence ourselves Chat Icon

If you do it yourself, go to Home Depot and rent a post hole auger. Not the manual diggers, but the gas-powered drills. 20-25 holes to dig will take forever manually, plus you'll be in agony for days.
