Re: REA costs...
ours was 5% (2.5% for buyers agent and 2.5% for listing agent). but since we are also using the same agent to purchase our new home she dropped the commission on the sale to 4.5% (2.5% for buyers agent and 2% for listing agent).
eta: when we were looking and my agent was sending me listings, it seemed like most were 5%

Re: REA costs...
I charge 6% (3% for buyers agent and 3% for listing agent) but I have reduced my commission to 4% - 5% for exclusive listings, more expensive properties & for personal friends.

Re: REA costs... (update: another question at bottom)
thank you for the responses... sorry, i don't know much about this - i know normally you would go through the same agent to sell your home and buy a new one... does it make any difference if i am only selling and won't be using an agent for my next purchase? thanks!

your selling agent would probably PREFER to have you buy a house through them too, but they can PREFER anything they want, it doesnt mean you have to do it! unless you signed a buyer agency agreement with them, you are free to use whomever you like! happy shopping krista!

the agent that i've been speaking to knows our situation - we're going to be buying my grandfather's house, so there won't be any agents involved in that, and only one lawyer. it will be nice and easy i was just wondering if that affected the commission the REA gets for selling our house, in any way. like i said, i haven't a clue.

Re: REA costs...
I usually charge 5% - 3 for me, 2 for the agent who brings in the buyer.
If I sell it myself I will drop the comission 1%.
If another Pru agent sells it I will usually drop it about 1/2%.
Good luck with your selling and buying process!
