HIV screening
I go for my AFP & HIV screen this weekend. I have been with DH for 9 years and though I am sure we have been faithful the HIV test makes me nervous. Anyone else-or am I being silly.

Re: HIV screening
I wasnt nervous because we have both been tested during previous physicals.
But I can understand why its nerve wracking.

We have too but I always think its a detection test not a prevention test. (shivers)

Re: HIV screening
Honestly I was so nervous about the other tests I did not worry too much about this one. DH & I are both of mediterranean descent, so I was worried about CF & the different Anemias we can be prone to.
I think in general though it is a nerve-wracking test, just because of what it is.

Re: HIV screening
I think its totally normal...I have also been with DH a long time (10 years) and I was tested at my first visit and was still nervous...I even did stupid research on the internet to see if there were other ways I could have gotten it and I had myself convinced that there was a chance because of an endoscopy I had years ago You will be fine! Just stay off the internet and don't be like me ;)

Re: HIV screening
I agree, it's totally normal to be nervous about the HIV test even if you have been monagamous for 9 years.
You'll be fine

Re: HIV screening
I was so nervous - and I was tested for work ( regular blood tests) when I took my job, and I knew if I had HIV it would show up, so I had nothing to worry about, but since its a test specifically looking for HIV, its so nerve wracking... I knew other wpme who went thru the same thing - you are not alone!!!

Re: HIV screening
I was slightly concerned myself...maybe because it is a condition you can have and not even know it for years. Funny I was tested with my first and still got nervous for my second. Silly cause I know my dh and I are both faithful and have been since long before our first child.
I'm sure you will be fine. Good luck though and try not to stress.

Re: HIV screening
I was also scared to get the HIV test probably because we all grew up in the age of AIDS where it was the biggest thing to worry about! All was gfine and its a strange sense of relief when you get your results back.

Re: HIV screening
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. I was tested 2 years ago for life insurance but I was STILL nervous. Not that I have any reason to be. I've never engaged in risky behavior, but I was like, well what if? Of course, DH yelled at me. I think he lost his patience with me at that point.

Re: HIV screening
because i work in the healthfield with children who have varous diabilities, who bite, pinch, spit, etc, i get tested every year for HIV just for my own piece of mind, so it wasnt a big deal when my OB put down an HIV screen when i went for routine 1st trimester bloodwork. they just want to be sure and test everyone, esp for your childs sake
