Lynbrook - dity water?
We have been living in lynbrook for a little over 2 months and have noticed that we have brown water - more often then I would expect.
When we installed a new hot water heater during renovations we installed a WHOLE house water filter at the rec of our plumber to help extend the life of our hot water heater and such. So technically we filter ALL the water coming into our house before it even hits our hot water heater or bathroom pipes - why would the water still be brown.
I have 2 theories - the easiest one is that the filter needs to be changed. I have been asking DH to do this for like a month but he just hasn't gotten around to it. I finally freaked him out yesterday and told him I was tired of bathing ds in un-clean water.
The other theory is that we have a non-copper pipe somewhere in our walls that contaminates the clean water as it goes up to our main bath which is on the 2nd floor. We live in an old house (built in the 20's) - this would be a catastrophe as we are done opening walls and are living here now.
Does anyone else that lives in Lynbrook have perpetually un-clean water? I can't tell if it is the cold ccontaminating the hot or if it is our brand new hot water heater.

Re: Lynbrook - dity water?
my step-daughter lives in Lynbrook in a house built in 1926 with her Mom. They have problems with brown water too. I know they got a new washing machine recently because the clothes were getting ruined & it turned out that it was the water not the machine. Its probably an old cast iron or lead pipe where the water comes into the house. Those things can be like opening pandoras box in an old house, because you try to fix one thing & everything around it crumbles. I haven't talked to them about their water problem in a while, I think they were getting opinions from plumbers on what to do....first they have to replace their heating system because its really old & not working right.

I live on the border and we have the same water company.
We had brown water and smelly water not too long ago. I called the water authority and they came and did something underground.
Since then it has been perfect

I haven't had this problem, although I am pretty sure the previous owners did an extensive plumbing overhaul. The water company did send a letter saying they would be "flushing" the system in Lynbrook these last two weeks of April, so that may be the case?

I was just going to say this. My inlaws live in Lynbrook & have been having this problem on & off the past week. They called the water company & they told them to expect it as they are "flushing" the system out & plus their is construction on the street behind them going on. It is all causing the brown water

Re: Lynbrook - dity water?
I agree with above posters that they may be flushing the systems which could be causing the problem. They are doing it where I live now and they told us to run the cold water for a few minutes first. I lived in Lynbrook my whole life and the only time I had brown water was if we were away and didn't use the water for awhile. Even then we would run it for a few minutes and it was fine.
