Thanks for sharing, girls. It really means a lot to me. I think a lot of this is being magnified because my best friend of the last 7 years is moving across the country next month. It's just hard. So, what I need to do, I guess, is find some manly women to be friends withChat Icon Chat Icon Just kidding, just kidding.Chat Icon

I would consider myself like you. I have many male friends and a handful of girl fiends, in fact 3! Then I have othe friends who I can not talk to for months, so I wouldn't consider them great friends.

I do love the idea of a GTG. I usually hate to meet new people, but these forums are great!

Re: Friend question. Please come in....

I could have written this post, I have a hard time making/keeping friends. For one, I hate the phone, For 2 I never want to be overly pushy which in turn comes off as standoff ish on my part which I am not. And for 3 Im a bit of a loner but I do enjoy hanging out ocasionnally with friends but I have found that this is not a key to maintaing friends ships- it seems that unless Im up someones butt 24/7 the friendship dies...This is a major issue for me. I currently have about 3 girl friends and a few guys friends and Dh but I still dont feel like Im a good friend to any of them because I dont call enough...

Ok, you described how I feel in a much better way. Not wanting to seem pushy definitely makes me look standoffish, and I definitely am not the type to be up someone's rear all the time, so I don't really feel I maintain friendships.
I do think being a mom has helped, though. I feel like it is something that I instantly have in common with a lot of other women, and so it gives me a chance to talk to people and spend time with people that I might not have in the past.
I dont' know, I'm like a walking contradiction. On the one hand, I love to meet new people and make new friends, but on the other hand, I wish I just have a handful of really reliable friends and then just leave it at that.

Do you think maybe new friends assume you are too busy to hang out much because of Ava? Like, it's hard for me to transition with work friends to the hanging out outside of work friends...Have you asked people to grab dinner after work or get together on the weekend or something? I'm a bad friend because I am really bad at making plans, and for the past few years was in class most weekends so missed a ton of events...

That's a good point. Maybe people just think I'm busy because I have a baby. I am sure I need to make more of an effort. Something that I will definitely try to do.
