preparing for AF and need some advice...
Well, unfortunately, I think that AF is about to pay a visit - the witch. This morning when I went to pee, on the toilet paper, there was a light pinkish tone mixed in with the normal yellow (sorry, TMI). Very, very faint...I figured I'd see more as the day goes on, but nothing. I bet tomorrow she will make her grand appearance. According to the OPK, I am due about now. Last month, when she showed up, I was on a plane going on a business trip and just got really emotional when I arrived in my hotel room.
I was being proactive about two months ago by making an appt with the ob/gyn for April 30th, giving myself a couple more tries. My question is, what do you think the dr will do for me? I have been actively ttc-ing for almost 6 months. Since I'm 35, that is when he told me to come back (I had my annual late last year). I've been off bcp since last May, but was not TTC-ing. I just don't want to waste any time. The practice I go to is awesome (Vullo, Sampino & Ketchum), but I hear if you have any problems getting pg, they are not the practice to be in. Just wondering what they will prescribe for me on the next visit or will they test?? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm very impatient as I'm sure many of you can relate

Re: preparing for AF and need some advice...
I just finished all my tests after trying for 1 year...I'm 29 and I don't know if its any different if you are older but this is what I had to do
CD3 bloodwork - to check hormones HSG - to check tubes for blockage or scars mid-cycle sonogram - to measure ovaries, check for cysts, and some other stuff that i can't think of now
My DH had to go for a semen analysis.
After all of these tests...I was given the option of trying for 3-6 months with OPKs to see if maybe its just that the timing was off. (my cycles are irregular) or start clomid. My doctor was leaning towards OPKs and I agreed.
I hope this helps....

Re: preparing for AF and need some advice...
Thanks to both of you for replying. LovingLife, very helpful info, I just wanted an idea. I personally would go for the clomid (I think) only because I don't want to waste time. If I were 29, I would have done what you did. However, this is assuming my tests are normal. Thanks again!! Why is this soooooo difficult??

I've been asking myself that everyday lately....we just have to have faith that it will happen...praying sooner rather than later

Re: preparing for AF and need some advice...
Given my age, I was also advised how long to TTC before coming in for testing. What I did was the day I got AF, I called the office and told them I wanted an appointment for CD 3 for fertility bloodwork. When I showed up at the appt I was armed with a list of what I wanted tested, (FSH, LH, E2, prolactin, progesterone etc), and told the GYN I wanted it done. He & I had a discussion and he said I could give it another 3 months, or go see an RE, or he could prescribe clomid.
I made the decision that until the bloodwork results were in, I wasn't taking any drugs, I also wasn't waiting another 3 months, so I went to see an RE.
In my case, it turns out that taking clomid would have been useless b/c my FSH was already high, so I'm happy I decided to make sure it would be effective before just adding chemicals to my body.
During the RE consult, I was advised to repeat CD3 bloodwork and schedule an HSG to check tubes after AF came and went, and then discuss further options.
If your practice is not very pro-active with women who have issues, I recommend being as aggressive as I was. IF they don't want to give you an appointment on CD3 for bloodwork, I recommend calling your regular MD and asking for a script for fertility bloodwork so you can run to Quest (or whatever lab) and have it drawn so you don't have to wait until next month.

Great advice, thank you! I will keep all this in mind. I have a feeling they are going to not be proactive, so I might need to be...

Hi, just curious, why on CD3?? Thanks.
Research shows that hormone levels on the third day of your cycle are accurate predictors of future outcomes. For example . . . FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), if it is high on CD3 it indicates that in all likelihood your body will not respond to clomid.
