It bugs the crap out of me too.
How can people say they don't see it?? Do you get on or off the parkways? People use the exit ramps as their own personal garbage dumps. It is totally disgusting and very disheartening. No, the towns can't keep up - nor can the taxpayer's money. Don't people realize that WE are the ones who have to pay fo the clean up of these inconsiderate slobs???

I am very aware of the trash that surrounds NYC/LI - I think its the OCD in me and yes I do feel like it is getting worse rather than better...
I NEVER understood how people could throw trash out the windows of their cars or on the street while walking...the first thought that comes into my head is - "They must live like pigs in their house!"
How HARD is it to put in the trash or keep it in your car until you can get to a trash can???
This is me too, I can't stand the trash/cigarette butts/wrappers/7/11 cups etc...
This is my biggest pet peeve, it makes me so mad when I see someone flick a cigarette but out the window. What do people think? The world is their ashtray!!!
I have noticed it has gotton worse on LI.

I have to agree, sorry. This island is filthy. I think about it all the time when I drive around. There are very few places I go and don't see garbage all over the roads. And I don't think this is an "I hate LI" statement, I think this is an "I hate people who litter on the island" statement.
Totally agree!!! I love LI, but I hate the litter.

I was thinking of this post today...I saw a guy on the Grand Central literally open his door while driving and toss a large bottle out I was shocked...not only littering but that is dangerous for other drivers!

Unfortunately we live on a main road & are all to aware of the littering.
I told DH I wanted to staple a wall of flypaper outside of our fence to prove a point. I'm sure seeing a wall of garbage would make people think twice & I just need to rip it down every few days instead of picking it up as it blows into my yard.
