Very happy - long

Well, I saw another dr today. Last week, I saw my usual obgyn after having what I think was a chemical pg. She bascically checked me out, said I looked fine - although may have a corpus luteal cyst - and said I have to wait another cycle to ttc. I asked her some questions, which although she answered, it just seemed like she was sort of rushing us, and as we were asking questions, she was trying to walk out the door. I understand that she sees this type of thing (chemical pgs) alot and its common for her, but for me - its a big deal. This is the first time I had one and it was a huge deal to me. I pressed her a bit on the having to wait one cycle to ttc - asking her why, her reasoning, etc - and she was just like "No, you need to wait". It just seemed like that was the "company line" so to speak. Also, she told me to have an ultrasound after my next AF to see about the cyst, rather than in a week or so...and she used that as another reason not to TTC again this cyle.

So anyway, I just didn't have the greatest feelings after my appt (although physically all was fine). I just felt, DH and I are starting to start a family - this could be a short road (hopefully) or a long road. Either way, we want someone who is going to take time to explain things to us, be aggressive, listen to us, etc. I am someone who needs information and needs things to be explained to me in detail (or else I go on the Internet and diagnose myself, which is never a good thing).

Fast forward to now - we met with a new practice today (actually met with the nurse practioner who worked in a fertility clinic for 7 years). She was fabulous. She spent a lot of time with us going over everything...answering all of our questions, concerns. She was very reassuring. She made me feel so much better about everything and my chances of getting pg. I told her about the cyst that the other doc felt...she explained to me what a corpus luteal cyst is (even drew diagrams!) and told me how common they are and how quickly they resolve themselves. And in her pelvic exam of me, she did not feel it and is confident it resolved itself over the last week. Also, in terms of trying again, when I told her about waiting a cycle - she said "why would you wait?!". She said in my circumstance (natural m/c around the same time I was due to get AF, no D&C) I can absolutely try again right away. She said we shouldn't be missing a month...this could be "the month". Her outlook just seemed so different from my other dr. Maybe it's bc she specializes in fertility - but her outlook was basically like - "I am going to work with you to get you guys pregnant". Shes aggressive, and I think that is great. She said she has seen too many instances where women waited too long to take action. She said if nothing happens in 6 months (which she doesnt think will be the case) she wants us back to begin testing. She said a year is too long to wait (even though we are under 35). Finally, she is sending me for progesterone testing at 5dpo this cycle just to be proactive and make sure my levels are good!

So, sorry for this looong story...but I just wanted to share bc I feel so good about this practice!!Chat Icon

Re: Very happy - long

that sounds great-- honestly it amazes me how brisk some doctors are with us-- considering the whole business down there is so personal. Exactly the reason why I need a new doc-- where is the practice?

If you don't mind my asking - who is this new doctor? When I saw my OBGYN, I had a very similar experience (as far as "pushing you out the door with little explanation" goes). I was pushed off to an RE very quickly without much discussion....

Thanks!

ps. Good luck with your new doctor. You sound like you're on the right track!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

That's great, you must feel a sense of relief having met with a doctor that wants to help and make sure you understand everything. Maybe she's right and this will be your month! Chat Icon

I think you made the right decision. There is nothing that I hate more than feeling rushed at the doctors office. I know that they are busy, but this is your health!
