Do you know if they used an agency or just a lawyer or anything actually?

Re: Adoption
For international adoption we are using Children's Hope International. They do adoptions for China, Russia, Columbia, etc. The process does take a long time (for us it will approximately 14 months) and the fees are alot. For China adoptions they do not allow a child to be "matched" until they are at least 6 months old so the average age of an adoption family under 40 is about 8 to 10 months old. We chose China above the other international regions due to a very good adoption system within China (orphanages/foster families) and the general health of the babies.
I have known a few people to adopt domestically many years ago and we thought long and hard about adopting internationally or domestically. From a personal standpoint, I have heard alot of heart wrenching stories of the wait for a domestic adoption as well as the time period that the child is not "officially" yours. That is something I personally could not handle and I also wasn't too fond that most adoptions domestically are now "open" where you have communications with the birth mother. The great side of domestic adoption though is that you can get a baby only a few days old.
Choosing to adopt is a very difficult decison to make. There are a ton of books and articles on adoption that you should read. Just do a google search. There are also a multitude of yahoo groups that you could join. The most important thing, whether going international or domestic is that you will be bringing a child into your home and heart to love forever.
Good luck!!

My grandmother was a foster mother in the 60s and 70s for the Angel Guardian Home in Brooklyn. She adopted my aunt through them. They recently went to visit the place and my aunt was so moved. FM me if you want more details and I'll try to help as best I can. Good luck!

Re: Adoption
I read about that...but if I was going to go that route than I will just do IVF and use my eggs. I appreciate the thought though.

Re: Adoption
My sisters friends recently adopted a child domestically. They initially had a huge heartbreak when the mother of the first child they were adopting decided at the last minute that she wanted to keep the child. They had the nursery ready and everything. They had a successful adoption a few months later, thankfully.
