Anyone else think this was going to be easy?

I was on birth control and so super careful for so many years. I always felt like I'd get pregnant right away. I have been ttc for 5 months and I am starting to get really frustrated and worried. Why did I think it would be so easyChat Icon ?

Re: Anyone else think this was going to be easy?

Yep! And the reason why you thought it would be so easy is because people were so busy trying to get girls not to have sex that we never even learned about fertility!

great post...yes, I never imagined it would be so hard. All the years of trying NOT to get pg, then it's time to want it & it never happens! Plus, it seems as if everyone in my life is getting pg on the first try!!! Don't get it....and it does get me down each month and I do think about it every hour on the hour everyday! My age (35) is not making it easier.

yep, i definitely thought it would be a 1-2-3 process. while it took us a relatively short amount of time, about 3 months, they were a very long, depressing 3 months.

that is such an interesting point. They really do young girls a huge disservice by not really educating us about our bodies-- and just telling us about safe sex and basic birds and bees.

Which brings me to the point that drives me mad when it comes to women, motherhood, etc., that it's still a man's world out there!Chat Icon

I understand too. Our first cycle trying we got PG but it ended in a m/c (chemical at 6 weeks). So after that I really thought it was easy. We didn't have half a clue that month as we do now after all the reading and charting! Now each month passes and I wonder why it isn't as easy as that month.

Oh my Gosh, I'm exactly in the same boat as you are....! It's been about 5mths and I'm starting to think I'm broken. Chat Icon

If it makes you feel better, all that stuff you learn in school is probably true - it seems like if you're 20yr or younger you can get pregnant just thinking about BD'ing....anything over 25yrs and you have to Chat Icon and hope your friends send you Chat Icon Chat Icon

Doesn't seem fair, does it?

I'm only on my second month but I never thought I would be doing what I'm doing. Never thought I'd be reading TCOYF, OPK's, temp chartingChat Icon Originally I said we would just see what happens naturally - so much for that.

Re: Anyone else think this was going to be easy?

definitely thought it was going to be much easier. Even when you time it perfectly its still very difficult. i thought the reason it took people longer was because people just went in with the attitude of if it happens it happens and really didn't know when they ovulate. now with all the technology out there and knowing when you ovulate, it can still take a long time. i am glad we started trying right away!

I could do a huge dissertation on this-its the religious right preaching abstinence and putting religion in our schools. I believe the menstrual cycle, INCLUDING info about ovulation should be part of the HS curriculum

Yes, until I tried, not so much. I have given up giving up hope, I am after this month of "almost" not caring again. I think this is my 4 month of "not caring" until I get to the day and then Im like a crackhead feining. Im giving it 2 more months and then going to check us out and make sure all his boys are swimming upstream and Im making it down stream. I think this is the one and only time I would like to be like my SIL, my bro looks at her and BOOM PG.

I was convinced it was going to happen quickly, especially since I wasn't 100% sure at the time. I was hoping it would happen quickly, so I wouldn't have time to dwell on it and make myself crazy.
So now, almost a year later and I have made myself crazy!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else think this was going to be easy?

Absolutely. It never occured to me that I would be temping and charting and POAS every month to figure out O. In fact, who knew that this could be used to actually conceive instead of as a method of BC? But here I am, temping, charting, POAS, with a sex life resembles a science experiment that has thus far failed miserably to reach the desired outcome, and an appointment to see a RE. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else think this was going to be easy?

I too thought it would take less time then it did.
It is sad that no one discusses there fertility history. Even miscarriage history.

I feel so bad for women who think there is something wrong with them because they miscarried. It's just much more common then people think. I've even found some to be ashamed. Chat Icon

During my 8 months of TTC I found out about an aunt who was "barron", a cousin who had a miscarriage, that my own sister tried for 7 months and more stories about friends. Chat Icon

We really do need better education about our body's.

I thought I was the only one, glad, I am not alone... sorry. I always thought it would just happen right away. I find it so fustrating, and then when people put there noses in your business it gets more discouraging.

i'd like to advance this argument a bit past high school. how about MEDICAL SCHOOL??

4 years of blood, sweat, and tears later, not to mention an ungodly sum of tuition, and i must say that my education about fertility/family planning in medical school was rudimentary at best. sure, i can tell you about estrogen and progesterone until we're all blue in the face - but until ttc myself i was completely unaware of the importance of cervical mucous. in medical school they throw you to the wolves and make you do ultrasounds and catch babies - but they completely leave out the part about how these women GOT to that point in the first place.

it's sad that as women, we need to educate OURSELVES about our bodies.

oh, and in response to the original question - i thought getting pregnant was going to be a piece of cake. umm... not quite. it was actually one of the most stressful processes i have ever gone through.

I can't say easy exactly, but I was hopeful that it might be easy for us. I didn't think we would still be trying a year later.

Makes me wonder if I needed birth control all those years!
