Help with DSL & Phone
Hey Folks, I'm so p**sed right now, its not even funny. So the townhouse community we are moving into has basic family cable (everything from 0-70) for free (basically part of our maintance fee). Well that being said, I called cablevision to find out how much the double play (phone & internet) would be and found up I'm not qualified for the double play and cannot get IO digital cable because I don't have a pre-exsisting cable account (because the complex does). So it would be $84.90 every month for phone and internet. Now I'm leary because the stupid cablevision voice is through your cable line and if the cable goes out, so does your landline phone. So I called Verizon and as most of you know Suffolk County cannot get there amazing DSL & phone package (which is $80 per month with a landline phone). So now I feel royally screwed.
Does anybody know any other options? We need DSL and a landline phone. I know we could use our cell phones, but look back during the blackout, ONLY THE LANDLINE phones worked the best. Cell phones have ups & downs too. But Verizon's phone package is $60 alone, without any internet.
Help, I need to get this hooked up next week (can't believe I'll be in my new place!!). I have the gensecurity coming 3/12/07 to install our alarm system and they need an active phone line by then.
What would you all do? I hate cablevision but I feel like I'm going to get stuck using them because they were the cheapest....

Re: Help with DSL & Phone
I have all three with cablevision and have had some problems with one of the three going down at one time or another and had pretty good experiences with cable fixing it.
I used my cell during the times my voip went down and it was really very brief. I've had about the same amount of issues with I had the regular landline verizon service.
Cablevision has been ramping up in the last year to accommodate the demand and all three of their services have been much better than last year. That's just my experience.

Re: Help with DSL & Phone
I have triple play - never had a problem (never had a blackout either)
but if you have cordless phones with a landline, they dont work in a power outage either, only regular cord phones do. id just use my cell during a blackout.

Re: Help with DSL & Phone
its just extremely frustrating to only have the one choice of cablevision because I live in Suffolk. I'm stuck and I don't want to resort to my cell phone because my cable is down, you know.
P.S. if I wanted another jack put it, they said they don't do that. So who would I get to do that and would that mess up the whole optim voice crap because its not going through the phone line, its going through the cable line?

Re: Help with DSL & Phone
we also have the triple play. I have had a few times where the cable didn't work but Cablevision fixed it within a couple of hours and they credit you for loss of service.

Re: Help with DSL & Phone
Update:
Got a call from Cablevision and they are going to offer the double play. So it is $10 cheaper per month, so Cablevision it is.
I love how all of a sudden its now available to me. Interesting right????

We are going to do the Verizon Fios Internet and Phone with a Direct TV package through Verizon. The price is going to be $122 for the three. And basically we are going to stick with Direct TV until Verizon Fios TV is available in our area.
