clomid - at what point?

When do you start thinking about clomid? My doctor mentioned giving me a prescription for it if I'm not pg by March. At that point, I'd have been trying for 6 months (35 years old). I have a friend who told me she knew someone who got pg pretty quickly on it. I realize that everyone is different, but I was curious as to whether anyone has tried it or if it is something that I might be jumping into too soon. Plus, I see that there is a chance of conceiving twins or triplets, which might be too risky for me.

Re: clomid - at what point?

I am 36 and after 7 months of TTC, I am not pregnant. I have regular periods and I do ovulate. My gut feeling is that it was timing, so my doctor ran a sonogram that determined that I did in fact ovulate and he could even tell me which side I was ovulating from. He did a full blood work up that tested all hormone levels. DH had an SA. It was found that we are both fine after all of our testing. The doctor recommended AIH for us with no use of Clomid. I am going to assume that if after a few cycles of going this route that we aren't pregnant, then I would either go for an HSG or he would prescribe Clomid and do AIH again. Personally, I am not one to use medication until and unless I have to. We simply are not there yet. Talk to your doctor to explore your options.

Thank you for responding. I am not a huge fan of taking something unless it really is necessary. While I am anxious to get pg (who isn't, right?), I don't want to put something in my body as an instant fix. Thank you again and best of luck to you.

Re: clomid - at what point?

I'm on Clomid now (just finished my first round). I was put on it rather quickly. However, I hadn't gotten AF in 2 months prior to going to my OB. She ran a full panel of bloodwork and my Testosteron levels came back elevated which was an indication of PCOS. I have a feeling that I will be doing another round of Clomid next month as it seems it didnt do it's job this month.

Re: clomid - at what point?

After trying for a year now, I was just put on Clomid, as we are doing an IUI when I O. The clomid will increase my chances with IUI since hopefully I'll produce more than one egg and the IUI will help the spermies catch at least one of those freakin eggs.

I'm 37, btw and we were tested after 9 months of trying.

Thank you for the replies. After reading these posts, I am hoping that I can hold off on it. Unless of course some other medical reason would have it make sense.

I read that most doctors' rule of thumb is, if you are uner 33, they wait a year before trying anything else, and if you are older than its 6 months.

I am not one to put unecessary drugs into my system, BUT, with the TTC as painful as it could be, I wouldn't delay if I didn't have to.

I am under 33, and I will NOT wait for year. I am using Fertility monitor, and if I don't get PG within the next 6 months.. I am going to the doctor and will look to start something...

Every doctor is different, and you should talk to your doctor about all the side effects. But as for me, I would not delay it for any longer than I absolutely have to.

Also, Clomid is not a quick fix by any means... its just a step towards help.

I'm 36, but we were techinally only trying for 1 month. But then once I was on CD 45 I knew something wasn't right so we went to the Doctor. I ultimately went 88 days without AF and only got her because the doc gave me provera.

Re: clomid - at what point?

I think my age is the only thing making me anxious. So part of me wants "extra help".
