Of all the days... (long)
Of all the days for Jake to get sick like this... it happens to be on Thanksgiving.
I think he has a stomach bug. He threw up 4 times today and he had a bout of pure misery and crying (more like screaming in what seemed like excruciating pain) that lasted almost 1/2 hr.
I don't know if it could have been something he ate. I gave him waffles for breakfast for the first time today. He absolutely refused them after trying only ONE teeny tiny bite.
Could it have been that?
He ate a normal breakfast after that (oatmeal and some fruit). When lunchtime came he refused to eat and eventually just threw up.
He hadn't had anything to eat since breakfast so all he threw up was the water he had been drinking from his sippy.
He threw up a few more times after that although he was able to keep down SOME food, milk, and water throughout the day.
He was very tired all day, constantly yawning, but no temp.
Then he woke from a nap at 5:30pm SCREAMING. I felt soooo terrible for him because it seemed there was nothing I could do to comfort him. He was puckering his lips and touching his mouth so I assumed it had to be teething. I put some baby orajel on his very swollen gums while I waited for the tylenol to kick in. That finally seemed to bring him some relief.
But sure enough by 7:30pm he was puking up his dinner. He seems to immediately feel better after throwing up. I waited a bit and put him down for the night.
He's been out ever since but I'm so worried. He's never been sick like this. He's only thrown up 2 times before in his entire life. I was so nervous seeing him like that I was shaking.
Between Jake being sick like this, cleaning up vomit all day, cooking, cleaning the house, and a few (thank goodness only for dessert) guests, I am exhausted and my nerves are shot to hell yet I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight worrying that he'll get sick while he is sleeping.
What do you think this could be? A food allergy? A stomach bug? Combined with teething?? Or is the throwing up somehow a symptom of teething? Are pediatrician's offices open tomorrow and if not, do you think this warrants a call to the emergency service if he continues to throw up tomorrow?
Sorry so long and so many questions...I think I'm a little delirious from the day I've had...

Re: Of all the days... (long)
my husband also got sick. severe stomach aches and throwing up. keep him hydrated, make sure he is wetting his diapers. it's def worth calling the doctor if he won't keep anything down. by any chance, did he get a flu shot? could this be the flu?

Re: Of all the days... (long)
Hope he feels better Soon!!!! I would call the doctor. As long as you keep him from getting dehydrated, I am sure he will be fine. It sounds like a stomach virus.

Talia had the same virus last week - it was violent and awful - so I feel your pain. Call your dr. for instructions - but once her vomiting stopped, I started giving her a tablespoon of water - once she was able to keep that down (when about 15 minutes passes) I would give her another tablespoon of water and so on. the first day she had the virus she had nothing to eat and a few sips of water. she seemed to be better the next day, although she still didnt eat, or drink much. Any milk i gave her I diluted with pedialyte. The day after that I started giving her food again and she threw up from it - so just take it really slow. hang in there - it will pass soon!

Sounds like he has a virus to me. I agree with calling the doctor if he can't keep anything down. The major concern is dehydration. If he starts to look lethargic, you need to call immediately. If you want to know what it looks like it's when he can't even grab your hand but it just flops. It's different from flu-like, uncomfortableness.
Give him some Pedialyte or any kind of fluid. When my kids got sick like this, I would revert almost back to an infant diet of fluids, applesauce, mushed food. If he's refusing to drink it, try giving it to him about 10-15 min after he's had Tylenol.
It's so tough. I know. Nothing breaks my heart like when my kids are sick.

So sorry you had such a rough day!! Marissa had a similar virus a while back (with a fever though). Definitely try to get in touch with your doctor, but, in the meanwhile, try to keep him hydrated with water and Pedialyte. Hope he feels better soon!!

Re: Of all the days... (long)
Thanks for all the hugs and advice ladies.
He seems to be doing better today (crossing my fingers)... breakfast stayed down, he was happy and playful, and is now napping.
One strange thing though - completely refused his milk. Took one taste, gagged a little, then chucked the bottle halfway across the room. But he drank lots of water with no problem instead.
