Can anyone recommend giving rice cereal at 10 weeks?
The reason I ask is because my chubby little man is drinking at least 8 ounces at every feeding and i think going through another growth spurt (eating all the time and cranky again!!).
I know most people don't recommend it but of course other generations tell me too, lol...they used to start it early!!
I just feel he needs SOMETHING more if that makes sense!

I would try......my mom always told us that she gave us rice cereal at 2 weeks

I would try it out. Ryan was the same way. The formula just wasnt satisfying him, he was a big boy to begin with. So at 5 weeks I started with the cereal and it did wonders!

Thank you to all!! I just gave him his first dose and we'll see how it works..he's sleeping now :)
Oh and my mom said the same thing..we were started on rice cereal by 2-3 weeks of age, lol.

How many times are you giving him the cereal??

i was thinking about trying it with the boys.
I am going to start with twice a day i think...tomorrow i'll try it mid day and then at his last bottle (around 8pm) and see what happens...i just can't believe the amount of formula this kid goes through!! He is so cranky now too and the only thing stopping the cranking is a bottle...

I gave Jared cereal at 2 months. He was a big formula drinker. In the hospital he was drinking 5-6 ounces.

I've been thinking about doing this too. Jack was 16.4lbs at his 2 month appt and the dr insists that he shouldn't eat more than 32 oz a day. I feel like i'm constantly trying to "hold off" his feedings so he won't go over the limit. I feel like i'm being mean. I hate it. Maybe I should try it too.....I need to think about this.

I think its OK - we did it with Katie and it helped her sleep longer and also cut down on her a/r

Our ped. GI recommended that we start DD on cereal at 3 WEEKS! (She had really bad a/r.) It was absolutely fine, and she was always a good sleeper too.

Wow! Its funny..Johnny was sucking down 4 ounces in the hospital and this one nurse goes "honey remember, their little tummy is only the size of a marble" and i told her "well then my sons is the size of a few marbles because he is STARVING". He never spit up his formula and drank at least 4 from day one, so i don't buy into the bull that their stomachs can only handle so much!
