Either "Thanks" or "Thank you", depending on formality.

Thank you/Thanks
I sign "Best" when I'm not really thanking someone for anything in the email.
This
Me too

That is EXACTLY my reaction when I see it. Best what? Best wishes? Best regards? Is that better than just REGARDS? Like I am going to one up your Regards and say BEST regards. But I'm not going to write it all out. I'll just write Best.
Best what??????
I am not sure why this makes me get annoyed. But it really does.

Oh I do! Only because we had a manager here sign like that all the time and I googled it.
It means Very Respectfully
It is said to be used by ex military people a lot. It must be common in the military. The guy who uses it is ex military.

I CAN't STAND "Best"
There were a few people on my team who were using it and I made them all change it.
I love that you told them to change it! I wish I could do that!
Best is a pretty well accepted version of best regards. As someone with a doctorate that uses it, I'd tell you where to shove it if you "made me change it". I think that's pretty ridiculous.

At my company everyone, whether they have a doctorate or not, has to follow a certain format for our signatures that is set by the marketing department and corporate. So it's not actually that ridiculous. I don't enforce it with my team, because it's not a big deal to me other than irritating to me that they would have to shorten Best Regards. I mean it's one more word to make it complete and to read better. But I know other managers that do enforce it.

Right- but that's not how the previous poster put it at all. She said she can't stand it and made them change it- nothing about enforcing a company policy.

Re: When signing a business email....
I e-mail a lot of people overseas and usually I see them use Best or Regards..not usually together, it does drive me crazy when it's just best.
My work signature is permanently
Thank you, Mrs. Dawn LastName (I used to have several people calling me Mr. Dawn so I added in the prefix)

Funny, over here we would laugh if someone with a "doctorate" , whatever that means, used it!. I work with mostly Juris Doctors. I can tell you it doesn't go over big in a higher education setting. At least not this one!

I think it's pretty fair to reference formal education considering the topic of discussion. I'm not just trying to be like ohhh I have a doctorate. I highly doubt you would "laugh". If you did I'd reevaluate the old sense of humor.

This whole board has become extremely lame. My doctorate is literally directly related to the topic- that's what I meant. Two bitchy old crows though that always think they're smarter, funnier, etc. Kiss my ass.
Eta- I'm close to 40. I don't participate in such nonsense. Have a nice weekend.

Riiight. You don't even make sense. Isn't there a cool record for you to go play? A Victoria's Secret catalogue that your buddy can browse?
