babysitter got shut down today

Someone called and ratted out my babysitter, and she was shut down until she becomes a legal daycare. She only had a couple of kids and was so fantastic, and I'm so sad for her that this happened. She's been doing this for such a long time with no issues.

any recommendations for an AFFORDABLE (under $10/hr) in-home babysitter/daycare in the western nassau area? please send me FM if you don't want to publicize it for whatever reason.

Is there any way she would watch your kids at your house instead?

I can't possibly imagine you finding anyone for that amount of money. Maybe an in-home daycare?

It sounds like she WAS using an in home daycare (unregistered). Most in home daycares, and even daycare centers are less than $10 an hour.

Average 9 hours a day 5 days a week $10 an hour is 450 a week. I don't know any center.. maybe in Manhattan..that charges that much.

Yup...it's been a while, but I think I paid like $265 for an infant for nine hours a day at a center.

Hmmm, maybe it does come out to about $10 an hour. It feels like more!

In that case, OP, just look into regular daycares.

Re: babysitter got shut down today

If you crunch the numbers for full time daycare at a large center, it's well under $10/hr.

I'm a teacher and use a center. I love that I can send my DS to daycare so I can run errands, make doctor appts, and do home maintenance (painting, etc) on my days off during school breaks. I don't send him every day, but I do love the option. We do not live near our families so this is a real saver. My daycare center also offers part time over the summer for teachers so it holds my spot. My DS goes 2x a week and I pay 50% tuition. Mine is not a big center; it is run by a local family. You might want to try to look into something like that as I think they have more flexibility. Mine specifically caters to teachers and military.

I don't live on Long Island, but there might be centers on li that will work with you.

A lot will work with you if you don't need 5 days a week, but I did find that most require you pay for holidays. Summer, it depends. My last center did make me pay for summer, but I had to pay for a week's tuition to hold my spot for the following year. I also like the option of being able to send my DS when school is closed. It's nice to not have to rely on family or other options if I need to make a doctors appointment, or just need a break!

not a teacher but pretty sure my daycare works with teachers. I don't think they pay at all for the summer however don't know about school breaks.

For everyone they charge the same price for 4 or 5 days but they have different pricing for 3 days.

My day had other options than 5 days a week.
You could do 2 or 3 or 5.
If you needed 4 I believe you could do the 3 day a week rate and just add on a day.

Summer session was separate so if you didn't need summer you just didn't pay for it and you started back up in the fall.

Re: babysitter got shut down today

Our center allows part time. My daughter only goes 1 day per week and we pay $92 for one day (in the two year old room). We are lucky that she is watched by family the other days. I am a teacher and still send her during summer vaca, school breaks and when I'm off so I can run errands and not break her of the routine...plus she loves "school." If I don't send her one week, if she's sick or we're away, I pay half the tuition price. If you don't put them in over the summer, you don't have to pay but I think you need to pay the reregistration fee again (not sure because I keep her in for the summer).

Where do you live? Dd's old daycare in deer park had 3, 4 and 5 day options.

I pay $50 per day for 8-5. Dd goes twice a week but if I need to send her more, as long as they're within ratio, I can.

That's a great price. I pay $48/day for 8 hours a day ($6/hr). Where do you go?

My current babysitter and the helper (lives a few houses down) are going to split the kids for now between both houses to meet the regulations. She is now in the process of getting the license, because she already meets all of the requirements anyway. Just worried the price will increase now that she has to pay insurance and claim some income now

My center takes kids part time. I'm a teacher and send my kids only half days during vacation weeks and in the summer each keep a part time schedule to maintain routine. The summer we didn't do it was an awful transition back in Sept.

Definitely done--just need to ask.

Not sure how far it is from you but I know MATTS in syosset offers part time care and a teachers rate (have to pick up by a certain time, no care over school breaks and summer). Good luck!

Not sure where you're located, but my DD goes to daycare in Queens and is charged only the hours she's there. She does go 5 days a week but only from 1:00- 5:00 PM and it comes out to under $10 an hour. It's Christ the King daycare.

MY children go to a center 4 days/week. They have 3, 4 and 5 day options. You can also pull your child out for the summer without having to pay.
