What would you have done- related to explosion in chelsea

I was in the city Saturday night for a bach party.

I got a text from a friend about the bomb in Chelsea and she was making sure I was OK. We were nowhere near there (we were by 51st street) I informed 2 of the people I came in with. I then informed the rest of the bridal party which at the same time one person got a call from a friend who is a cop who was concerned and said there are reports that there might be other bombs in the area.

My first instinct was to leave and go home. Thankfully we drove in so all we had to do was walk to the car get in and go. But I kept my mouth shut cause I then started questioning myself if am I being overly cautious. In the end, I didn't need to make a decision almost everyone else freaked out and said they were going home bach party is done.

The bride did not want to leave and said she was fine with staying. I got her point she didn't want to live in fear and I feel the same way 99% of the time but this time I didn't bother arguing with my ride about going home but I did feel bad for the bride. Plus once DH found out he insisted I get the hell out and come home.

So I wonder would have you stayed in the city or left to go home. No one else seem to know and/or be fazed what was going on when we were walking. I felt like we were the only panic ones leaving (I am sure it not true but that's they way it seemed).

I'm usually not a worrier but lately with all of these horrible things happening everywhere in the world I feel like you made the right decision. I think I would've done the same thing given the circumstances, I'd rather be overly cautious then not.

With the unknown and reports coming through that they were finding more throughout the city, I probably would've left. I understand the brides point of view but before I CAN'T get out of the city, I would want to leave. I NEVER live in fear and always believe that "what will happen, will happen" but in that moment I would've left to get home to my family.

I would have left and urged everyone to leave as well

I used to date NYPD undercover and he would always say they make less of everything on the news to keep people from panicking. If there's a threat somewhere or in the case, an actual attack - GTFO of there ASAP. Better to be safe then sorry.

this was one of the main and many reasons for leaving people were afraid that they would close down the bridges and tunnels and we wouldn't have been able to get home. Everyone out was from NJ and 3 of us were on LI

I would have left before I got trapped there!
I am also now worried because next weekend I am supposed to go see Avenue Q with my husband. Now I am scared to death to even take the train in. Still not sure what to do yet!? Chat Icon I don't want to live in fear but all I can think of are my children and the what if something happens. My DH thinks we will be fine since the NYPD will be on high Alert. I probably would've stayed. But not sure how much I would've enjoyed myself since my mind would have been on the incident and what else was happening around us.
But I think I would have tried to stick it out for the bride.

Not sure how long into the night this happened for you guys. But maybe you can get together again and take her to dinner ?

Left and gone home.

Been in the city for too much $hit over the many years I've gone to school and worked here. It takes a lot for me to head in to the city on the weekends. Not worth sticking around, especially if the bridges and tunnels were to close.

this happened pretty early we got in LIPS For dinner and we had just got in front of Johnny Utahs when we heard the news.

I did feel really bad for her I know she was highly disappointed I told her, we all told her, that we would make it up to her.

Definitely would've left.

We stayed over in the city on Friday night and had almost booked Saturday night also. Had we been there Saturday night, I would've left. But then, I would've been scared about leaving too...I would've been thinking are there bombs near my parking garage, on the streets I will be driving on, etc. etc.! Scary world we live in! But you made the right choice

Defintely would have left, with credible other threats in the city, the explosion at the jersey shore and the minnesota mall attack - nope, there isnt a party in the world I wouldve risked it for. You can always have a do-over on the bach party, not so much if you are in the vicinity of a detonated bomb.

I was in the city too Saturday night from about 530pm-130am. I was on 42nd at a wedding at cipriani. Across from grand central. The Chrysler building and blocks from the UN. I was very nervous and really couldn't wait to get home to LI.

We were there with my family. We finished dinner, went to pick up another family member who had damage to her apt due to the bomb, and drove out. It took us hours to drive out of there, and I was paranoid the whole time. The scary part was driving my whole family toward the danger but you do what you have to do. Damn these "people".

I would've left. It's just too crazy right now. Fwiw, I'm one of those people with the "not living in the fear" mentality but I canceled on my friend (we were supposed to go into the city tonight) because I'm genuinely concerned.

I would have stayed but I work basically at a high profile target so if I was worried I would never be able to go to work.

I think it's a personal decision and no decision is wrong. You have to do what you feel is right.

If I had a hotel room I may have stayed, I think I would have been more nervous getting on mass transit or using a bridge or tunnel.
If I didn't have a hotel room I probably would have headed home and continued the party closer to home.

I live and work in Manhattan and I hardly leave the city at all. It is definitely scary though so I understand when people don't feel comfortable. At the same time, a bomb was also planted in Seaside, NJ, not a large metro area at all.

Agreed. Though I also agree it might've been hard to get it off my mind and relax. It sucks that her party was cut short, maybe you guys can plan for another night out?
