I'm not sure what happens but I think it's a bad idea if you get called and don't show up. Is your number high? You might not even get called. If you defer it you'll likely get another one in a year or less. I just went and I was there for like 3-4 hours and then done for 6 years. Same thing happened to my dh.

Well i guess you could claim you never got the letter telling you to call.
I mean they don't send it certified mail or signature required right?
So they can't PROVE you go it- kwim?

What if it got lost in the mail?
Delivered to the wrong address and that person just threw it out?
Stolen out of your mailbox?

Hard to prove you know?

Not sure if it changed but if you had call in and didn't show up they would send you a new notice where you must show up (no calling in).

I would call bc with your number and the holiday weekend I doubt you were told to go in. Call before 5pm bc they start the new batch after 5pm today.

I wouldn't play with it. When I've had to call, they have said if you have number 3000 and above you do not have to show up, call back tomorrow.

Now they could be doing that up to 4000 or 5000, but I can tell you that most of the legal world is on vacation right now. There are not going to be very many trials starting this week, so it's a better risk (IMO) to call now rather than ignore it and wait for them to call you again.

And if you avoid it too long they can fine you and potentially have you arrested. The fine would come first though.

You can say you never got the letter. Unless you signed for it there is no proof you received it.

I do want to add that I always postpone for a holiday week- and 2 times already I never got called and was excused for 6 years.

So with the holiday week I'd call and take my chances.
It's a perfect week for it

If you just don't show up, you'll get called again. If you don't show up a second time, a bench warrant gets put out.

you get marked absent if you dont show up. and you can only get away with that for so long..i think its 2 or 3 absences before they start really coming after you.

wondering why aren't you going. Im always baffled by this. Not to be persaonland you dont have to say (not stirring a pot), but we live in a free country which allows the collective us to have a jury of our peers and not get dragged out to the street and shot. So I dont understand why people make like its the worst thing in life. I know its an inconvenience, but better that than how it works in a third world country.

I went on jury duty last November and got selected for a trial. Yes, it took about 7 days, but it was really interesting.

I got called for jury duty in late May. The trial could've lasted up to 12 days. It was the most boring case on the planet. I was so stressed out about missing work, getting my son cared for and paying my bills, that I got shingles. It got me out of jury duty but kept me out of work for a month!
