Question for those of you with cleaning ladies

I know this has been asked a million times before but I can't get the search feature to work on this site so I apologize for the redundancy.

I'm about to start interviewing for cleaning ladies based upon some references I got and I just want to get an idea of what I should be expecting.

What is the going rate for a cleaning lady? I have a 4 BR 2.5 bath house.

Do they bring their own supplies or do you supply the cleaning products, vacuum, etc.?

Does your cleaning person do more than just dust, clean bathrooms and the floors? If so, what?

Thanks!

Re: Question for those of you with cleaning ladies

I pay $100 and she comes every other week.
I provide all of the supplies. She will leave out whatever I am running low on so I know what to pick it up before the next time she comes.

She does my entire house:
4 Bedrooms
2 Bathrooms
Living Room
Dining Room
Kitchen
Den

She also does my windows. If I ask her she will clean out the inside of the fridge too.

If beds aren't made when she comes she will make them. If the sheets need to be changed I just need to leave the fresh set out on the bed and she will strip and change the sheets. I very very rarely have her do that but she will.

She doesn't love my vacuum so brings her own.

And a total bonus she will walk my dog when she is there. I never asked her she just loves him.

Re: Question for those of you with cleaning ladies

I don't have a lady but my mom is one. Based on her, it really depends on what you want done. Is she doing laundry? Changing sheets? Etc.? Does your house have a lot of furniture? Carpets/Wood floors? How often?

I wouldn't expect her to do laundry. Changing sheets would be awesome. My house has an average amount of furniture I would say...nothing excessive. Downstairs is either wood or tile and upstairs is carpeting. I guess I was thinking every other week would be fine.

Question for those of you with cleaning ladies

I just priced out actual maid services for my boss and they were all hourly and based on a minimum number of hours. They ranged from $35-$47 per maid per hour. If you go on Craigslist or find someone who does it on the side it will be cheaper.

I called Merry Maids initially and I could not get over what she wanted to charge me. I actually said to the woman "you are cleaning a house; not saving a life."

The services are totally a rip off! I ended up booking him with MaxiClean through HomeAdviser, he needed a huge one-time deep clean. Give Carlos a call and see what he will do, he was reasonable and willing to negotiate 631-813-5480.

Sometimes an initial cleaning is more.

We do Every 2 weeks. 3 bed, 3 bath. She doesn't clean basement. Changes sheets, cleans fridge. It takes her 4.5 hours or so. I provide all supplies.

We pay $90 and we've given her raises since we started with her. We also give holiday bonus and sometimes extra. I try to tidy up before she comes but it's hard with kids. She works so hard.

Ive been searching for a cleaning lady for some time now also and felt the same way about Merry Maids! I was quoted about $180/ 2 weeks for them to clean my 3 bedroom/ 2 bath ranch. For that price I might as well do it myself and so far that's what I have been doing. I talked to another cleaning lady who quoted me $20 an hour but she lives in Ballston Spa (upstate) and can only come once a month. (Which won't work since my cleaning should be done weekly or every 2 weeks). I am nervous about just hiring anyone off Craigslist because I don't want any things stolenChat Icon

Re: Question for those of you with cleaning ladies

Mine comes every other week, she spends about 5-6 hours. I have a 3 bed/2 bath house with a small den. She uses our cleaning supplies.

She vacuums, mops hardwood, makes beds, changes my sheets, does the bathrooms and kitchen (not inside the fridge) neatens/tidies up toys and shoes.

We pay her $60 for the day.

Re: Question for those of you with cleaning ladies

Mine is $110 for every two weeks. 3-4 of them come and are done in around 2 hours. 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath colonial, den, dining room, living room, kitchen. I have only wood throughout and then area rugs so they mop and vacuum. They dust, change sheets, wash and then fold the dirty sheets, clean the appliances (inside and out), and will fold laundry if there's any left in the dryer. They bring their own cleaning supplies but will use mine if I want a specific product.

It sounds good in writing but I've had them for around 2 years and I feel like they've been slacking. I'm too lazy to try and find a new cleaning person so I just stick with them but my husband always asks me to fire them and find someone new so I'll be following this thread Chat Icon

Re: Question for those of you with cleaning ladies

They clean 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, eat in kitchen, living room, dining room, and office

It's two women and they are done in about 2 hours. They dust, wipe down all surfaces, vacuum/mop, obviously all bathroom fixtures, etc. Basic cleaning - no windows or extra things like that. They'll wash dishes in the sink if there are a stray one or two from breakfast if we're home that day. They also make all beds but I believe she doesn't do that for new customers because she doesn't do that for my BFF, to whom we recommended her. I guess we're grandfathered in!

She uses our supplies although the other day I was home with her for a little bit and she was using her own vacuum.

She has been working for various family members and friends for over 10 years so we fully trust her. They do a good job. I pay $90 every two weeks and I'm happy to do so. We have enough on our plates.

PM me if you'd like her info.

Re: Question for those of you with cleaning ladies

I think $75-$100 is a fair price based on what you said!

Question for those of you with cleaning ladies

We pay $125 each week... Its an older woman who has cleaned for us for many years. She also cleans my best friend's home. The $125 is for a 5 bedroom, 3.5 bath house. She will always clean out the fridge, ovens, sheets and bath towels/mats. She takes about 5 hours and she uses my own supplies. I order a lot of products from amazon that you wouldnt be able to find in a local store.

Sometimes i will throw her an extra $25 to iron as its something i dont like to do.

Sorry she isn't taking on any new clients. She actually has a waiting list.
