I chalk it up to "when you know better... you do better" You can't be terrible if your doing the best you know. When someone tells me something new, I do my own research and if it checks out, I try to do better. Shame on her for putting you down. It's one thing to try to educate people on things they might not know are dangerous but to make someone feel bad or inferior is just not right.
This exactly. And I dont think that should even imply that what you are doing isn't "better"
I personally dont use J&J products because of the chemicals and other issues with the brand (I did register for them when pregnant with my almost 5yo because thats what my mom used on me -- I just returned them before he was born and switched to babyganics or burts bees because I learned more about the chemicals they use in their US formula, that they leave them out of their international formulas which annoyed me, and I felt more comfortable with the other brands and ingredients). I didnt use Gerber because I made my own baby food but I have given other fruit sauce pouches and I also eat chicken and rice from NYC street carts so while I do try to do homemade/organic when I can I am far from a stickler on that. As far as cosleeping, my preference is NOT to cosleep although we have coslept on occasion out of desperation.
But please dont consider yourself a bad mom. We all do things different ways, some ways I may feel are "better" but others may disagree. At the end of the day as long as you love and care for your children and do what you think is right or even good enough, you are a great mom.

Terrible mom??
You are FAR from a terrible mom. Do not let this woman take up space in your head and make you doubt yourself.
I never understood people that are this forceful with their viewpoints. Do they feel they are saving everyone's children? Do they care about every child THAT much that they need to rescue them from J&J shampoo?
DH's cousin and I have differing parenting styles, and she is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She shares things every once in awhile, but is very respectful. We get along great because we are both moms doing the best we can.
It's one thing to share parenting viewpoints, it's another to force viewpoints down someone's throat. It comes across as insecure.
