giving someone a poor review on care.com?

I hired a babysitter for Saturdays. Everything was great at first - references checked, was a preschool teacher, great with the kids. Then things started getting weird she would tell me she couldn't do certain days etc. Now I just sent her the schedule I needed for the next for the next few weeks and she tells me oh I can't work for you anymore, I got a new job as a teaching assistant in the fall and need to prepare for that. SO now I am stuck for the entire month of august with NO childcare for Saturdays. She has only worked for me since April. I'd really like to leave a poor review on care.com but I'm concerned that she can come back and say these things aren't true etc.... Thoughts??

giving someone a poor review on care.com?

I think I would just write something simple like "did not provide adequate notice when quitting her job"
She can defend herself all she wants but what you're saying is completely true, and when it comes to people's children they will probably believe you over the sitter.

I think this is perfect.

I'd let it go, especially when she'd know it was you who was writing the review. Bad karma.

Re: giving someone a poor review on care.com?

I don't know, if it's bad karma to write an honest review on someone or something, then there would be NO reviews anywhere.

Yelp, trip adviser, care.com

I personally like to know that the person or place I am considering has been reviewed honestly. It helps me make informed decisions.

If everyone let a bad experience go, to be the bigger person or to avoid "bad karma" - what would be the point of even looking at reviews?

OP- I'd do what others said. Nothing derogatory or bashing, just the truth- she quit with not enough notice. It put you in a bad spot. Others should know that.

ITA. As another parent who might consider her as a babysitter, I appreciate honest reviews so that I can make an informed decision. To me, she's the one who has to worry about bad karma, not you telling the truth.

I leave bad reviews for places all the time, but in this situation, I probably wouldn't. Only because she knows where you live, knows your kids, etc. and if she wants to retaliate, she certainly could. A little "too close for comfort" IMO.

I would definitely state that she left without adequate notice. But if you were happy with the care she did provide while she was caring for your kids I would include that in the review as well.

I would appreciate reading that review. For me, I have no back-up support and your situation would put me in a predicament. However, that may not matter to some people.

Same here. It sounds like you gave her a fair review and potential clients need to know so they can make informed decisions.

giving someone a poor review on care.com?

I think its wrong to leave a poor review for somebody that has only been working for you for a few months tops. She has the right to leave just as much as you have the right to stop using her.

It's not like this person worked for you for years 5 days a week and got up and left with no notice. This was only for two months and lets face it, losing date night on Saturdays is hardly leaving somebody out in the cold.

I mean, what if the OP works on Saturdays? She didn't write that it was for date nights.

As far as the OP, IDK. This woman knows where you live; that would make me nervous.

I can understand if people have things they have to do, but three months is way too short of a time to have an expectation of "notice" and to even think about leaving a "poor" review.

If the situation was reversed and the OP decided to stop using the sitter, would there be an expectation for adequate notice by the sitter? I don't think so.

This person cared for her kids, and likely did a great job otherwise she wouldn't be upset that she left.

This one I'd let go because I'm paranoid. She knows your home, your child, etc. Just wouldn't be worth it for me...especially because although it sucks and is unprofessional she didn't do something completely egregious in which I'd feel obligated to report.

The OP works on Saturdays, so that IS leaving someone in a major bind. As a person providing childcare so someone can WORK, you should be courteous and at least give them appropriate time to find a replacement. I think that is completely fair to write in a review.

See but that's why I completely disagree. Bc of the style of work. You should give notice no matter how long you are working

Bc if you leave on the spot there is no backup or someone to fill in

Re: giving someone a poor review on care.com?

I think the OP left a perfect review. It's not like the review bashed her. Since this person just got a new job... she probably won't be using care.com that much anymore anyway. I doubt she'll care.

I think the sitter would absolutely expect adequate notice if the OP didn't need her anymore. Why wouldn't she? When it's an ongoing position, it's only right for both parties to give notice. I would leave an honest review exactly like the OP left.

I agree I would leave honest feedback with bashing. I make my decisions on care.com based on reviews. I want honest ones. I need to know if someone is possibly unreliable.

My husband and I both work Saturdays so it was not for date night. It was for daytime saturdays. And she was hired in March as a long term situation as i was starting a new job in April so she workednfor me 4 months not 2 and the understanding was that this would be a long term situation. I completely understand the right of wanting to leave but don't you think its the right thing to do to give 2 weeks notice? I need this job to support my family and we have very limited outside help. Rather than letting me know she would be leaving she waited until I gave her the new schedule ( which is what we did every month)to say "oh by the way I won't be working for you going forward" basically she got a teaching job and doesn't need this anymore. I could have started looking for a replacement weeks ago. I told her that was great and I understand but she is really leaving me high and dry by honoring the commitment for a few more weeks so in could find a replacement and she said said no so sorry

ETA: that she got a job as a teaching assistant and needs the rest of summer to prepare for itChat Icon

Also if I were to not need her Saturdays I would I'd probably come to some agreement like 2 weeks pay or something like that....
