What kind of Facebook friender are you?

Do you friend people who you barely know?
If you meet someone once, do you immediately friend them?
Do you feel you need to be friends with someone to actually be friends on fb?

I Just got friended by a woman in my town who I have never met. We have a number of mutual friends but I think she friends people to promote her business. So it got me thinking, wondering what most peoples rule of thumb is.

I only accept friend requests from 2 types: 1) people I know in real life (coworkers, friends, classmates, networking events), or 2) people I have dealt with online (Etsy vendors I order from often, CF groups, local area groups). If its someone in another country who I never met, I delete the request.

I used to only request and accept friend requests from people I was really friendly with and no one from work. But then, I would get these requests from people that I just met or barely knew. In those cases, I feel obligated to accept. Else it can be really awkward the next time you see them. I will not accept a request if I never met you though. I rarely friend request people unless I really know you.

I don't friend a lot of people. Mainly people I know IRL, and actually want to associate with. That list has been getting a little shorter in the last year...
I have no hard and fast set of rules for friending someone, though. Some "friends" I only know on-line, some are casual acquaintances, some are good friends IRL, etc.

I only accept friend requests and friend people that I actually know IRL in some capacity. I'm not a fan of friending someone just because we know mutual people. I don't need a stranger knowing my whole life.

I have no friends. I'm not on Facebook. I have real life friends and that's it.

I don't usually friend someone just because unless I need to get in contact with them.

I get more requests than I make. If I do know the person - I accept. If I don't, I decline.

Former Friends - from childhood that I went to school with through HS even if we don't talk now.

Family - anyone who is related I have a big extended family including out of the country

People in my life that I socialize with currently but NO one from my current job

People I didn't accept a request from - an ex bf, a ex coworker of my sisters whom I met at my fathers funeral for 30 seconds and lives OOS.

I have to know the person... Whether it's been for a day, week, or year... Otherwise I message them asking who they are and delete request if need be.

I NEVER friend anyone, like ever. I'm not a huge face book user. People that friend me- I accept them if I know them and have spent time with them, not just met this person once and is a friend of a friend. I also have been in bridal parties and didn't know someone, I will be friends with that person

Im private so if there's a chance of you friending me to be nosy- not happening!

Most times I deny a lot of requests unless I know you.
Lately its DS ppl who want to friend me and while I'm in DS as well, I don't do that!
so not friends and a deny.

Actual IRL friends and family, of course.
Some coworkers. Not a lot.
A good amount of people from the world of following PJ around.
Some folks from LIW/LIF who I have met - and some I haven't met but we know mutual people or just generally click.
Sometimes if I meet a person and we get on really well and they are good friends with some of my good friends, we will become FB friends.

I have decluttered my FB in recent months. I'm only friends with people I'm friendly with IRL. Some other people because I really enjoy their posts and pics of their kids. I deleted a bunch of "have to". Like I feel I have to be friends with them. Nope, no more. I have restrictions on everyone and really only share my world with a few. I like it that way. It used to be different. But now, it's my way and no second hand friends.

I don't friend anyone, I make them friend me

But mainly I have some family, some HS/college people and current friends, both from IRL and on line.

My facebook is constantly changing. I will generally become friends with people I don't know well if I know them from different facebook groups, if our kids go to school together, if they are a friend of a friend I would like to get to know better. I am also friends with old classmates, a few colleagues, extended family, etc. However, I have also been cleaning out my facebook recently and if I dont like someone or their posts I will swiftly defriend, especially if its not someone I know well. And, honestly, I have even defriended a few people I did know personally for various reasons. So, I guess I'm open minded and welcoming but I won't hesitate to remove you either.

an interesting question. i've friended people i don't know from overseas and in the US in animal rights groups im in.

i have also friended people I just met. I don't promote anything.

eta: i never friend anyone who I currently work with. I have some former co workers

I have friends who I've never met or have only met once or twice (some who have posted on this thread lol) but I generally won't send a friend request unless I've met/spent time with the person at least once, usually twice. Unless we are in the same group on fb and talk on there.

I will usually accept most friend requests unless I've never spoken to the person IRL or in a fb group, like someone who wants to be fb friends so they can promote their direct sales for example.

I have to know the person. Met, spoke to...hung out with work with. Im friends with a few people my dh works with, but i have met all of them.
