So Cruz and Kasich went rogue - conservatives come in

Would love to hear from republicans/conservatives here

To recap (in case you missed it or need a break down) ...

Marco Rubio video'd in and did as expected - endorses Trump (sorta). But he didn't show .. So it's sorta like "f you, this is all you're getting after how you treated me, you angry creamsicle looking fool."

Kasich .. He didn't show at all. At all!!!!! And he's like in charge of the state that's holding the RNC. He supposedly was asked to be VP and in charge of everything under the sun, but he laughed his ass off and said no.

And Cruz. Cruz showed up.. He's expected to endorse, sounds like everyone was sure it would happen. He Congratulates Trump on the nomination, goes into a long speech and trump kids are looking on.. Scowls forming as he goes on. Everyone is getting a sense that he is not going to endorse. And he doesn't. He gets boo's, chants of "endorse!" But he says to "vote with your conscience". Boo's galore. Chris Christie looks like someone told him he's been banned at buffets forever.

People were so angry at Cruz that he had to leave. His wife fled out of fear, someone apparently had to be restrained they were so angry at Ted.

People said he made a pledge.. To support whoever wins the nom. I thought about it a lot. This guy - his wife was insulted. His dad was insulted and speculated that he was involved in JFKs assassination .. He was called lying Ted for months. I don't blame him.

Some are saying its political suicide. That he's over. But he's very big into the constitution and very conservative. I think he's creeped out by what happened to his party and just can't get on board with how Trump has changed things (someone who isn't organically conservative). I wonder if it isn't political suicide, but maybe this will get him more respect from the other members of his party who are similar to him. And was he supposed to endorse someone who insulted his wife?

What do you think? I don't blame Kasich or Cruz. Shows character that they believe so strongly and won't just bow down, IMO.

He is facing delegates now actually ...

I'm not a Cruz supporter but finally someone who stands behind their beliefs and doesn't conform to what people expect. He should be admired for not endorsing him. Maybe this will be a wake up call for the party

MD Governor is a Republican. He didn't go because he said he had a crab feast to attend. Love it! Trump has many enemies in his own party.

Re: So Cruz and Kasich went rogue - conservatives come in

I was a big Kasich supporter. Not a fan of Cruz really. But I think it speaks VOLUMES that neither of them would endorse Trump. For Kasich to turn down VP is a big thing - for both his career and for the GOP as a whole. It sends a very strong message. That being that they are willing to put their own political careers on the line to preserve the credibility of the GOP. They are not willing to blindly stand behind someone who they don't truly support or respect.

I have said it from the start and I stand by it - I'm conservative and I usually vote Republican. I cant stand Hilary and I wont vote for her. But I really dont think I can bring myself to vote for Trump either. I cannot take him seriously as a candidate for President of the United States and I think he's a disaster of a nominee. And I think that Kasich and Cruz's actions last night showed that much of the Republican Party feels the same way.

Re: So Cruz and Kasich went rogue - conservatives come in

Not a Republican. I consider myself moderate and vote for both parties based on the issues. Many times I split ticket vote. With that said, Cruz stated regardless of the outcome in November of 2016, he will run in 2020. To me, if you say I will endorse, and then, at the moment you need to say it, you don't you are no better than a run a way groom standing at the alter and leaving. Fwiw, I don't think that Trump really ran as a serious candidate, but he is now the nominee. I can't help but feel badly for republicans who feel like their party has turned against them. If I was a Republican I am not sure what I would do in November.

Ted Cruz creeps the ever-loving crap out of me, but good for him for sticking to his morals. I do not agree with anything that he stands for, but can respect that after months of being called a liar, having his wife mocked, and his father accused of having something to do with the JFK assassination, he did not roll over and endorse Trump. So what, he signed a pledge? Does anyone think that if the roles were reversed that Trump would have endorsed ANY other candidate? NOPE.

The "boos" and chanting, and violent aftermath was disgraceful and indicative of the anger that Trump incites.

the report i read about kasich and the vp slot was that donald jr reached out to him and asked told him that as VP he'd be in charge or foreign and domestic policy. kasich asked what DT would do as president if he was in charge of foreign and domestic policy. donald jr's answer? "make america great again."

Agree word for word. I think they should both be given credit for taking a stand on their beliefs about him as a candidate. Kasich turning down the VP nomination kills me because I have said all along that could save us if this yahoo gets the nomination but I give him credit for not doing so.

I'm not a fan of Cruz at all but I am surprised was even there to begin with... after Trump called him "Lying Ted" for months you would think he would have skipped it.

Just like Cruz, Kasich is biding his time until 2020. He wouldn't jeopardize that by aligning himself with Trump.

Kudos to Cruz for standing up for what he believes in and for being loyal to his wife and family. So many politicians have said they don't agree with Trumps views and ideas but they will vote for him because they are Republican. I just can't get behind that at all. Don't we teach our children not to go along or do something when they know what the other kids are doing is wrong? Pledge or no pledge, it speaks volumes about your character that you don't get easily influenced or flip flop on a dime. Pence didn't support Trump a couple of months ago and I still don't think he's fully on board. Trump will never be able to bring the GOP together. I think he has done more damage than good to the party. It will have a lasting effect, more than people think.

I'm a registered Republican and was all set to vote Republican. I mean we did have like 17 candidates to choose from after all. I'm ashamed and utterly disgusted that Trump is our nominee.

A talking head had an interesting thought. No one knows yet if Trump is just a freak accident or if the party really is crumbling. So why jump on board if this is just a flash in the pan and maybe it ends up being a disaster and they will want to go back to traditional republicans ? Or maybe tides are changing.

One thing that is so hypocritical: trump and cronies are all about him not being the establishment and all. So if that's his selling point, why get offended someone didn't follow through to some BS pledge to endorse
whoever gets it? Isn't that very establishment-esque?

Lastly... If trump's wife was criticized like Heidi. Or his father accused of nonsense, ya think he would endorse Lying Ted if he got the nomination? Not a chance in hell.

Completely agree. I'm not a Republican at all, but I have the utmost respect for anyone in the party who will stand up for their beliefs against this buffoon.

My take is that they are all a bunch of hypocrites. They were asked in a debate if they would stand behind the nominee whoever it was and they all said yes except for Trump. Trump was the only one who said no and he was given crap for it. Now they are all acting like little babies licking their wounds because they lost. Maybe instead of pouting, they all should be taking a HARD look at why someone like Trump beat them all and start a complete overall of the Republican party (and the same thing goes for the Democrats - Having a candidate who a good portion of the public does not trust is also a joke). The whole political system is a joke and I'm sure Trump could care less if either of them endorsed him or not. He doesn't need them and he really doesn't need most in the republican party. He is his own anomaly. As far as him calling Cruz and others names, they all did it to him and his family as well and I'm sure we'll be hearing some doosies from the Clinton campaign after they give her the nomination. I think it's pathetic on all fronts what this society has become and no matter who wins, it is a complete embarrassment.

Cruz is an angry little man who is just embarrassed he lost to a celebrity that barely tried. Cruz would have zero chance of winning the general since he is too far to the right.

Kasich at least did the right thing and didn't show up or ask to make a speech. But again this guy won what... one state (his own). His chances of winning a general are also minimal.

I think it's fantastic that Trump knew he wasn't getting an endorsement and still allowed Cruz to speak. Trump gives zero ****s.

do you fault Ted? Would you allow your wife and father to be dragged through the mud and then stand and endorse the man that did it? No snark, just wondering what people would do

If I was Heidi Cruz and he went ahead and endorsed him, I would be headed to a divorce lawyer.

Ted could have easily bowed out and not shown up. But instead he enjoys slinging the mud just as much as everybody else.

I actually applauded Ted Cruz.

Yes everyone said they would back the eventual nominee but I really don't think anyone thought that Trump would actually win the nomination.

I don't care for Cruz. He is way too conservative for me.

That said, given the way Trump attacked his father and wife, I am glad he didn't endorse Trump. I think he took a risk last night which may not pay off but we shall see.

I am glad Kasich stood his ground. Found it interesting that he was approached as a potential VP.

I am not a republican but when the pledge was done, it was way before what was said and done during the campaign. To expect all of them to be tied to the pledge is delusional. Trump has made fun of cruz's wife, insulted his father as the possible assassin of JFK. Come on! That was insane!. And I can't stand Cruz. Trump was very nasty and way over the line on his remarks to others.

Yes, Cruz should have just refused to come and speak but it was his way to say F U. Why is anyone surprised? How delusional are people? It was all part of a "game", of the "campaign". I don't think so.

On a side note: I love the observational comments of OP.
