Dry Drowning
What's the deal with this? How worried do I have to be if my DD choked on her juice while laying down and drinking her bottle?? She coughed 3 or 4 times and is fine now in her crib. All of these Facebook articles on this topic are driving me nutso!!!

Re: Dry Drowning
I didn't even know it could be from juice
I thought it was from being under water even for a few seconds

Re: Dry Drowning
Uh I have never heard of this before. I read the above article and still don't really understand what it is. Your child choked on some juice and is fine now, and you're afraid she is going to have a problem? How could that happen from just a small amount of juice?

Yeah I think, and I could be wrong, it only applies to being under water, not juice going down the wrong pipe.

Re: Dry Drowning
I think you have to inhale liquid into your lungs for it to happen. Not choke on it going down your throat.

Thanks for replying. I am dealing with some anxiety issues and for some reason yesterday was particularly bad for me. Thanks for helping to talk me in off the ledge. ??

Re: Dry Drowning
Very rare. My son was in the pool for 5 hours. That next morning his breathing was seriously distressed. We took him to peds and even knowing he had been in the pool that long she didn't believe it could be dry drowning, it is just too rare. Was it? We don't know. He used a nebulizer for a week and went in daily to dr for checks and all was ok.

Dry Drowning
A family member of mine is an ER doctor for many many years and said he has not seen dry drowning once in his career.

That's good to hear. Sometimes DD or her cousins go under water- they are learning to swim- and come up coughing a little and I'm like- Oh God.
The internet can be the devil sometimes!

This is my DS as well. He is always coughing a bit from being under and my mind goes into panic mode. I swear I hate the internet sometimes.

Dry Drowning
I have also heard it is very rare and requires a fairly decent amount of liquid being inhaled. The posts freak me out to, when my kids dunk in the pool and come up sputtering I always get super nervous!!
