Re: salary history???? do i really want to say the truth?

My last job offer, I left if off of my application. Hiring manager asked what I wanted and I gave him a range. They paid me right in the middle of what I asked for and my salary was almost doubled. No way was I going to tell them what I was making. I knew I was underpaid, but had no clue what they were willing to pay. Silence is golden sometimes Chat Icon I personally would not lie though. I would say this is what I want, and won't make a move for less. Nicely though Chat Icon

My dh is constantly approached by competing companies He has made several moves over the past 10 years and never once been asked to supply a pay stub or w2. When he is asked for salary he always inflates what he makes. I don't think a potential employee should have to supply proof of income If a company wants you and is willing to pay you X amount of money it shouldn't matter what you made years prior.

Agree. You can always so no to the W-2 and if they don't hire you, it's their loss.

i have always bumped mine up and I have never been asked for proof.

Same. I thought that's what everyone does and it's a given.

Don't lie it could come to bite you in the end. As long as you are asking for a salary that is competitive it is reasonable to expect that you would want a jump in pay.

Most companies ask for a recent pay stub to also verify current employment.
