Pokemon Go
Anyone else obsessed with Pokemon Go? I downloaded it yesterday and both myself and my 6 year old feels compelled to catch them all! We walked over 11,000 steps both days.
Mad props to the people that thought it up - something that's loved by kids and adults and promotes exercise! Brilliant! I saw a tweet that cracked me up - Pokemon Go has done more for childhood obesity in 2 days than Michelle Obama did in 8 years. :D

I saw a neighbor and her 2 kids doing it and then they told me they were running into grown adults doing it by themselves. i thought it was a kids thing but I guess not because I even saw a friend who lives in Sydney posting about doing it and he doesn't have kids.

I downloaded the app but wasn't going to tell anyone because I'm too embarrassed. LOL
I had trouble logging in though so I haven't tried it yet. DH and I don't have kids but think it looks so fun!

I think it's funny. I plan on playing with DHs phone bc he has sprint and unlimited data
I have a feeling tho that kids are gonna be going over their data plans and parents are gonna lose heir minds. Wifi isn't always available everywhere you go

There were 15 teenage boys playing it at the park today, I thought I was awesome. Then driving down main street saw groups of kids playing it.

my friend had me download it saturday night and we walked around playing the game bumping into tons of others playing! i am currently out of poke balls and dont want to buy them and i havent had a chance to get to a spot to collect them

I go running in the park on my lunch hour. The place was packed with hordes of teenagers playing this and many adults on their own walking around playing.

I don't know a ton about it, but it's basically an app/game where there are little creatures called Pokemon out and about in the world. Like the real world we walk around in lol - the app shows where they are and you go capture them. The app uses your camera on your phone so you see them as though they are right in front of you. (I think "augmented reality" is the nerd word for this). It sounds so dumb as I'm typing this but honestly it's so cute. It makes you walk around and really see places/things you might otherwise not. A lot of times they are by landmarks or public places. It's like a scavenger hunt in a way. I'm sure there is way more to it but this is all I know so far.

Pokémon Go is a free-to-play augmented reality mobile game developed by Niantic for iOS and Android devices. It was released in beta in July 2016. The game allows players to capture, battle, and train virtual Pokémon who appear throughout the real world. Although the game is free-to-play, it supports in-app purchases. An optional companion wearable device, the Pokémon Go Plus, is planned for future release and will use Bluetooth to alert users when a Pokémon is nearby.
You wander around the real world, and Pokemon will appear. You can "capture" them, collect them, train them, and battle them at virtual "gyms".
It's a real-world version of the cartoon, where Ash Ketchum wanders the country looking for Pokemon.

It's an app - you register a user and give it access to your phone's GPS (and camera, but it's not necessary). Then you pull it up and walk around. When you get close to a Pokemon (obviously fake, but it looks like it's in the real world when you connect it to your camera) - you throw a Pokeball at it to catch it. That's the basics.
You could look around at the other features - one part lets you know if there are any Pokemon nearby, and another section shows you all the Pokemon you've captured. You also can collect eggs that grow into Pokemon. When you walk far enough (I've seen 2km and 5km) then it hatches.
There's another aspect of battling at the gym, but I haven't tried that part out so I can't say how easy or hard it is to battle. My 6yo and myself just like running around the neighborhood and parks looking to catch them.

I'm 45 and addicted! I usually enjoy going out with my 6 yo, but I just got a new phone and I'm nervous he's going to drop it in his excitement.
