I might get arrested...
I got a message on my home phone last night and tody that I owe money to the IRS and the only way to stop an "enforcement action" is to call them back.
Yeah. I'm gonna be right on that.
ETA: For those in the Long Island area the number it came from was 844-551-0579

LOL I get that all the time- on my home and cell.
Do they really think we'll fall for that?
I doubt the IRS would call someone with an automated recorded message to warn you they were about to arrest you.

It's ridiculous. We get those kind of calls regularly. IRS, computer viruses, warrants out for our arrest in another state, etc. I can't stand it!

I know someone (an older woman) that was actually going to go to western union and send the money. Something seemed off to her because they wanted to stay on the phone while she drove there and sent it. So she called the police on another phone and they told her it was a scam lol. The police came to her house and filled out a report. Really there's nothing they can do though.
My mom called me one day and said they called her house for me. She gave me the "IRS" number and said it was very important I call them back cause I will go to jail if I don't lol. My mom falls for everything... even the microsoft call scam.
I'm guessing a lot of people fall for this nonsense (probably older people), otherwise the scammers would stop trying and find something else.

There's a woman that works with me that fell for it too. She called the guy Back and asked for his id. He made one up. Told her she owed $1100 dollars and they were going to get arrested. She called her husband and said she thinks her brother turned her into the irs. She eventually spoke to our director who told her to not call again. It's a scam. The irs will never call. Not over $1100 dollars. She wanted to call back to tell the guy that she knew he wasn't irs but we told her not to.

My thing is, I know we pay our taxes on time and in the right amount. So I would know that anyone claiming I didn't was a scammer.

I got a message that the IRS has a lawsuit against us lol. It was an Albany area code but sounded automated with an accent. Unbelievable

So many people fall for this, it's sad. My husband worked in retail and was a manager. He had so many people going in to buys"green dot card" and try to wire money for known scams. He did his best to advise them not to do it. Some listened and some did not.

I had a call from an 845 number last night on my home phone which is unlisted. the caller id said "FAV". didn't pick up and no messge. guess i'm not going to jail yay!

I don't think the people falling for it don't pay on time or pay less than they should. The people on the phone say that you or your accountant made a mistake and you have to pay now or you'll be arrested. The older lady I mentioned in my post above was told that they were making 1 last phone call to her in an attempt to resolve it before the police are dispatched to arrest her. In her mind, the police were on their way to arrest her.
The sense of urgency and forcefulness frazzles some people and common sense goes out the window. I think these older people would rather pay and work it out later then actually be arrested. They don't realize once it's paid... theres no getting it back cause it's not actually the IRS.

I received an automated call from that number too. I blocked the number and then next day, I received the same automated message from a different number, and had to block that call too.
