Mystery illness?
Is there some type of strange virus going around? I have been sick with a fever and excruciating sore throat since Monday. Was put on an antibiotic and no better, so I'm guessing it's viral.
I had mono years ago and heard it can flare up when stressed but I was on death's door when I had it and while I feel like crap, I was able to get my sh!t together and go to work today. My throat is BAD, even with 800mg of ibuprofen it's still a killer.
I feel like kids are getting slammed with everything, but anyone know of anything taking the adults out?

Re: Mystery illness?
Sometimes a bad sore throat is just viral. Which sucks because there are no meds for it and it just has to run its course. Which takes forever. Last time I had this the doctor gave me some kind if steroid to drink in the office and it helped me feel SO much better

Yes, it came back negative but the doc was pretty sure I had it based on symptoms. Rapid strep tests are notorious for giving false negatives. They said they weren't sending the culture out since they were treating it anyway. BUT, I'm going on 4 days of antibiotics and don't feel an ounce better.

Re: Mystery illness?
Yes - both of my girls had it. High fever on and off for about 5 days. Some of the kids that got it had very sore throats but not all. It's going around. Take lots of motrin and wait it out.

Re: Mystery illness?
I have it now. It is viral so nothing to do but tea, salt water, throat lozenges, soup, rest, and exercise.

Re: Mystery illness?
Yes. My DS came down with it on Saturday. Fever, headache and sore throat. He just started feeling better yesterday. His strep test on Monday was negative, and the doctor said it's viral.

Mystery illness?
I would go back to the Dr and let them take a look. It could be viral, or could be something that needs a stronger antibiotic.
