Question - because I know nothing about bedbugs
If bedbugs are found in a hotel room, is it a fluke or because the hotel cleaning service did not do their job properly? I am probably naive and always assumed that if the room was clean I didn't have to worry about bedbugs but now reading other people's experiences I am re-thinking things. If they are found is it due to the hotel's neglect or is this just something that other guests bring in and it's not preventable or easily treatable?

Question - because I know nothing about bedbugs
Other guests bring them in. It's almost impossible for hotels to Never have them. The thing is more about them treating for them so they do not become a huge outbreak. And they can be anywhere. Airplanes cars offices etc.

Re: Question - because I know nothing about bedbugs
hotels should be encasing mattresses and box springs in the bedbug covers to prevent them from getting into the mattresses. that's not to say they aren't in any other fabric furniture in the room.
fabric surfaces are where they are so beware sitting on couches/upholstered chairs.
they have also been found in movie theaters, so we don't go anymore.

Question - because I know nothing about bedbugs
They can be foundd anywhere. Anyone can bring them in. However, like the pp said, they should have mattress encasements on all mattresses and box springs. They can live on the couches, in curtains, in the headboards and dresser drawers. But once a case is confirmed, a hotel should be doing everything they can to treat for them. We've spoken to 2 different exterminators in NY after we found the bb in my daughters bed on vacation on wednesday and both extermintors said the same thing. The only true way they are going to get rid of them is to shut down the building for treatment. It is not easily treatable. We found an adult bb and if there is an adult there is likely an infestation. My niece was bitten and she was staying in a suite on a different floor and across the bulding from where we were. But just because a place is clean and spotless unfortunately does not guarantee there are no bedbugs.

Re: Question - because I know nothing about bedbugs
Any hotel will have, it's if they get it under control. It's not really preventable for the hotels and it's not easily treatable either.
