Work/injury question
Please don't quote!
I broke my nose in 2 places last week playing for my company softball team. It is displaced and I will need surgery. Is my company responsible for the bills or am I? We did not sign waivers. I am sure they will pay for it once I tell them, but I feel awkward.

Work/injury question
The company is. If it was a work sponsored event it would be covered under work comp.
FM me with any questions as this is what I do. My company would pay it no issue!

Work/injury question
The company is. I fractured my hand years ago playing softball for the company and was told they would cover the bills. I didn't have many (it was when everyone had a PPO or HMO) so I just had them flow through my insurance.

This should be a comp claim and not even go through your insurance. Did the dr/hospital ask how the injury happened.

Yes. Work will pay. I fractured my ankle at a company event and it all went through worker's comp.

Re: Work/injury question
You shouldn't need a lawyer. It should go through withers comp. my DH tore his bicep at a company hosted bowling outing. He had t have surgery and was out of work for a few weeks. He was fully compensated and his bills were covered.

Ok so he said it depends on how involved the company is with the team. He said if you want to talk to him he'll be available between 3 and 4. I can text you his number.

You should def not need a lawyer for it. it should be a simple comp claim. If you go in with an attorney this early it will just cause issues.
I see near death claims and even some of them don't get to that point.

I'm not saying for her to lawyer up but since she's a friend of mine and my dad is a workers comp attorney, I thought that maybe she could get some free advice on what to do, how to proceed, what will happen, etc. if she wants it.

Re: Work/injury question
If you even try to put it through your insurance you'll get a letter from your insurance company asking for more information. The first question is, "Did this injury happen as a result of or at your place of business." Once you answer yes to that, they will reject all claims. As others have said, this has to go through your workers comp, not your insurance.

Work/injury question
So HR is telling me the company will NOT pay for anything because it was not work related and completely voluntary to join therefore they are not responsible.

The injury does not have to take place at work. If you were at an office meeting or even on your way to an office meeting and was hurt it would be comp.
Company picnic etc would all be comp.
