WARNING: vent ahead

I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF HAVING TO FEED PICKY EATERS (WHO ARE NO LONGER 3 YEARS OLD)!!!!!

SO and his mother (and their whole family, but i only live with these two) are the pickiest eaters in the entire known universe.

i know i am not a bad cook, but these two make me feel like i don't know how to boil water because they turn up their noses to almost everything i make.

if it's not too spicy (um ketchup is too spicy), there are too many onions and peppers, or there's too much sauce, or there's not enough sauce, or not enough salt, or too salty, or the veggies/pasta are not cooked long enough. what the hell is wrong with these people!!!!???

i can't put together a half-decent menu plan because they are such babies. and to top if off, if there is ANY kind of dessert in the house, SO's mother will literally throw away her dinner saying she's full and then try to hide that she's grabbing two (or three) servings of the dessert.

i'm THIS CLOSE to not cooking for them any more. they are welcome to eat hot dogs, frozen burritos, and order pizza until the cows come home and i will cook for me and me only!!!!

ok. vent over.

Re: WARNING: vent ahead

Don't cook for them anymore.
Seriously.
Everyone is an adult, you have raised your child, and they should be able to fend for themselves.
It's not like you are home all day, you work full time too.

Re: WARNING: vent ahead

My husband is the same way. I cook now for myself and my DD. He can fend for himself. I was tired of hearing complaints or watching him grab a sleeve of cookies after I slaved for an hour making a meal. I am much happier now : ).

Re: WARNING: vent ahead

I am so thankful my husband and daughter eat (and sometimes enjoy) my food. If it were like that, I would just stop cooking altogether and let someone else do the work for me!

Re: WARNING: vent ahead

I agree with everyone else - tell them to cook for themselves.

When I was in junior high, I decided to go vegetarian. My mom told me I better learn how to cook because she wasn't a chef in a restaurant and so I did.

At like, 12, I made my own food (and am still vegetarian and love to cook now)

So if I could do it before I even grew armpit hair, these two grown-ass adults can too!

WARNING: vent ahead

I live with my parents and I would cook a homemade meal every night for them as well as my family. My father complained about my cooking so much that I simply stopped cooking for him. Wouldn't you know after a week of not being fed his tune changed. I still don't cook for him that often since he pissed me off so much.

So just stop cooking for them.

Ohh hell no! They are adults, they should be grateful for what they get or else they know where the stove is .. They can do it themselves!

Re: WARNING: vent ahead

Stop cooking for them and possibly move. What does your SO say?

I could never live my MIL. If she complains about the food, what else does she complain about? The fact that your SO complains is another issue, but the fact that he allows (does he say anything to her?) his mother to complain is disrespectful to you.

Re: WARNING: vent ahead

Wait, is this your DH and his mom you're living with that treats you like that or just a boyfriend? Are you planning on getting married?
This is a big No! There is no reason an adult man that loves and respects you should have anything bad to say about your food let alone let his mother say something too. If there's a problem with it then they can cook themselves. I cook a few times a week on weeknights. If DH doesn't like it he's on his own. I love when we all eat together, but there are certain dishes he doesn't love. I try not to make them too often, but my boys love them and it's healthy. I usually make it on nights he's working late or may go out with his friends. I don't grill or make red meat so he does that and never complains.
There are more important things to butt heads on. Cook for yourself then and they can shop and cook for themselves as well. Tell him to take you out more then if there's a problem. LOL
