http://www.newsday.com/news/new-york/brooklyn-playground-shooting-leaves-5-teens-wounded-nypd-says-1.11911130
NEW YORK - Police are searching for a gunman who shot and wounded five teenagers at a New York City playground.
It happened just before 5 p.m. at Harry Maze Playground in Brooklyn.
Police say the male victims, ages 15 to 18, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the teens were at the playground in East Flatbush when an unknown person approached them and started shooting.
Two of the teens were struck in the hand, one was struck in the leg and another in the cheek.
Police say a fifth teen suffered a gunshot wound on the side of his stomach.
There have been no arrests.
Luckily, nobody died, but these random mass shootings are scary....

Five teens injured when gunshots erupt over pricey bookbag at Brooklyn playground
An argument over a pricey bookbag at a Brooklyn playground sparked a barrage of gunfire that left at least five teens wounded Monday, police said.
Gunshots rang out shortly before 5 p.m. at the Harry Maze Playground on Ave. D and E. 57th St. in East Flatbush, sending several teens running for cover. Though cops said five people were shot, FDNY officials said six were wounded in the mayhem.
Rescuers took four victims to Kings County Hospital, and two others walked in on their own, according to FDNY officials. Cops said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. The teens were arguing over an MCM bookbag, police said. The backpacks and bags can cost from $700 to $1,700. The investigation was hampered by uncooperative victims, cops said.
“None of the kids are talking now,” one source said.

Figures that Newsday would forgot a few "minor" details....
Not quite as "random" as Newsday portrayed it. Still scary that guns are the go-to reaction for some people.

Guns are the go to reaction for a lot of young men in the city... Or at least three ones I come in contact with. 95% of the boys I teach have fitted a gun at someone. Most of them do so after the smallest arguments. No one respects clean fighting anymore. It's sad and scary.

Hey my boys in the 'burbs arent much better... they've told me how easy it is for them to just pull up to a truck near JFK that's stocked like a sneaker display at foot locker. How do they find these guys, but the cops can't?

Yea, I saw something online about this when it happened (I forgot which site) and they specifically said that the VICTIMS weren't cooperating with police. Makes you wonder why. If I was victim of a crime you better believe the cops would be my best friend!

My FIL is NYPD and he tells us stories about some of the things he encounters daily. It sounds like a movie. You would never believe it's real life. These kids grow up with a certain idea in their heads about how they are supposed to act being from "the streets". It's truly amazing that they are able to get guns so easily.

This wasn't far from my school.
It doesn't surprise me at all. "Snitches get stitches" is a very real part of the culture here. It is amazing the lengths some will go to to protect people who hurt them.
