Specifically in Atlantic Beach but also anywhere?

My family would love to join the only thing that is stopping me is I hear it is almost impossible to get a cabana. Any insights? Also which club are you a member of and any feedback / recommendations/ reviews would be great!

Yes, I have a cabana at sun and surf. It is hard to get a cabana but not hard to get a shower cabin which is pretty awesome too. No exaggeration it is my favorite place on earth Chat Icon Highly recommend it!

Not sure where you are from but it's predominantly RVC & GC people. I actually share with friends from Bethpage. Its a very social atmosphere and my kids have more independence there because everyone knows everyone and its so private being the very last club.

I agree with the previous poster, except I am at Silver Point. I know someone who got a locker at The Sands with no wait while waiting on a few lists for a Cabana to open up.

We are in Oceanside. I am going to look into both of your suggestions and check out the Sands. I feel like we would really, really love it. Just hope we did not miss the ball. I probably should've starting thinking about this earlier in the year.

Good luck but to be honest I think you may have missed it for this year. Maybe not a locker but definitely a Cabana unless you know someone with one that you can get in on.

Yeah, I know!!!!!!!!! I am not expecting a cabana at this point although that would be wonderful. As I understand even some members with lockers often wait a few years for a cabana to open up at their desired club. I'd love a cabana but it sounds like it's more of a long term plan :(

I know the Ocean Club has a wait even for lockers and ABC may as well but I bet you could still get a locker at Sun & Surf at this point.

The New York beach club in Atlantic beach has a few cabanas left ( used to be called New Plaza beach club, it just came under new ownership)

Thanks! Sands is completely booked and Sun and Surf didn't answer our call. Tried Sunny Atlantic too but found them to be a little rude on the phone so I am put off, plus they weren't even sure if they had space. We're going to tour Silver Point later this week and I'll give New York a ring. Hoping to get through to Sun and Surf because I keep hearing great things!

We're at Silver Point. Last year was our first year, and we had a locker since they had no cabanas available. This year, we got off the wait list and were given a choice between two cabanas. Another family we talked to said they had to wait two years to get off the wait list. I think it depends on how flexible you are willing to be with location when the wait list opens up. Good luck!

Re: Is anyone a member of a beach club?

I split a cabana with a friend for the first time this summer. I'm irrationally excited about it. I think pickings are going to be slim now... we booked in May and got one of the last units available in our club.

Re: Is anyone a member of a beach club?

Can somebody explain what a cabana is, what is inside it for somebody totally clueless on beach clubs?

I was looking at some cabana prices and they are insane. Are they like little rooms where you can sleep? Whats the point of them vs. just going to this beach club to hang out at the beach (I guess).

What am I missing here?

It's a place to store your stuff, most have showers and a fridge and a sitting area inside and on the patio. Nothing necessarily luxurious. But the club provides beach access, pool, a cafe, bbqs, cabana service, some have a kids camp, bocce courts, tennis, basketball, and daily and nightly activities and entertainment. It's basically a social club. Place for kids to run around, meet friends, play and for adults to do the same I guess haha.

We were members of Catalina in Atlantic Beach two years ago. The grounds of the place are very nice and updated. The cafe has great food as well. Its literally off the boardwalk so you will pass by a few places mentioned above when going for a walk. At the time, it cost us $10.5K but we knew people who split theirs.

I have a friend who belongs to Atlantic Beach Club which is supposedly the creme de la creme, but i thought they needed a major renovation. Only good thing about that particular club is that its cashless.

Plaza Beach club seems really nice as ive walked by it a ton of times and they have a restaurant open to the public directly on the beach.

I just keep thinking of beverly hills 90210 when they all belonged to the beach club. Lol

Not really a beach club but Creat Hollow Country Club has a members only pool/tennis area. The prices seem really reasonable as well.

What about a yacht club? We just joined one and it's members are 50% non-boaters. Many people utilize it as a social club where they can drink, hang out with friends, eat lunch/dinner. Ours has a play room for kids too which is nice.

This exactly. Having someone else lug your stuff on and off the beach is awesome. I call it a studio apartment on the beach. Expensive but worth every penny.

Concept is nice but I think the price is too steep when you can only enjoy it for two or so months here, right? And 10.5k.. Holy hell Chat Icon I think I would rather rent a house on fire island.

Also if you are thinking Yacht club be aware that many have rules on owning a boat. My parents belonged to Norhtport YC when they lived here and members must have boats. There were a few years membership was low and they accepted people without them but now with a wait list they only take members with boats.

That's really for an extremely high end club cabana.

Average is 5k to $6k and often split between two families. Still not cheap but if this is in lieu of camp or a week long summer vacation it can actually be worth it.
