Dilema... need advise
My parent's 50th is in August. DH and I booked a place for a surprise party and just ordered the invites. That's it so far.
My mom just called to tell me that they decided they're going on a cruise for their anniv to celebrate with some friends. It's the trip they've been wanting to go on for a while because they had to cancel the last one when her father got sick then he passed.
What do I do? Just cancel and not tell them or tell them and let them decide? I'd loose the deposit for the place and only thing we did was get the invites, which online wasn't that much.

Is the party scheduled for when they would be on the cruise?

Yes. They are going a few days before it and gone for the week. She has no clue, bc we were making it a surprise and only told a few of their closest friends to make sure they're available.

Can you reschedule with the same venue so you don't lose the deposit?

Was just going to ask the same thing. I am sure if you explain your situation and choose a different date, they will accommodate you - it's not like you are backing out 2 days before the party.

Re: Dilema... need advise
Before you go crazy by rescheduling, you need to get them to commit to the day/time for the party without knowing it's the party. Otherwise who's to say they won't make other plans aside from the cruise.
With that said, once you can lock the day and time down for a fake event then I would work it out with the venue and just eat the cost of the invites and make new ones.

Whatever you do, I hope you remembered to put the cost per person on the invitation.
Seriously though I would try to work with the venue to reschedule a day and lock it down with your parents.

Re: Dilema... need advise
Similar thing happened to us: we wanted to throw our parents a surprise 40th wedding anniversary party. However, they went away for a week right before.
So we moved the party to the weekend following the day of their return. It was perfect. They didn't suspect a thing and were very surprised!
I would book with the same venue for the following weekend and yes, that way you keep the deposit!

Re: Dilema... need advise
LOL! Of course I will...
Thanks all! Looks like we're going to reschedule for the weekend before since it's still free. I just want to mention to my parents to leave that weekend open so we can take them out before they leave. Now it stinks bc I have to redo the invitations, but they really weren't a fortune so it is what it is.

I would reschedule the party a week before they go away... Nothing like having a party & then going on vacation!

This literally JUST happened to me with my dad. LOL. His 60th is Sunday! I just moved everything to the next weekend. & it works perfectly because I'm doing things with picture albums, etc. and he has no clue. :)
