Cashiers
I have never worked in retail, but I know it is not a fun or easy job. But why are so many cashiers so slow moving??? I just spent 25 minutes on a line at Macys on my lunch hour and my blood was boiling the entire time because I don't think it needed to take that long. Just a rant. Feel free to tell me to work in retail before I judge.

Macy's is the worst. every Macy's is super slow. They make them put those stupid stickers on, scan both barcodes, they always have to sign in, take the security tags off, fold, bag the clothes. Plus they all seem to be 100 yrs old lol. then they have to find the coupon code on your account. it's just slow lol

I worked at JC Penney way back in the day (over 20 years ago) and I still get frustrated when I'm in a slow moving line.
I think it's funny now that grocery stores have self scanning lines. Before the self service lines, people would complain about the cashier and mumble about how they could do a better job. But as far as I can tell, they can't b/c there's always people in self service moving slower than molasses!

Re: Cashiers
That would frustrate me, too. I worked as a cashier in high school/college at a supermarket and we were timed... the faster and more accurate you were, the better. And the reports were hung up so we could all see how fast we were going. It was a bit of friendly competition.
So that said, I never understood why it took so long to check out at some places. Sometimes I watch the cashiers and they flop the clothes around, feeling for the tag, looking everywhere but at the item while they do it, then they scan it... then they flop it around some more looking for the security device, still looking past you towards the back of the line... then they remove the device... all the while I want to jump back there and start ringing things up like a ninja, yelling "next!".
Although it isn't always the cashiers fault. I especially love it when you feel like you stood on line behind two people and it took 25 minutes to get up there... and then it takes less than 5 for you to check out and be on your way. And the poor cashier is all frazzled and you're left wondering if the two people in front of you had to maybe solve the national debt before they could finish checking out.

I worked at Macys many many years ago and would "challenge" myself to ring people up as quickly as possible - but still fold the clothes and put them in the bag nicely. It drives me crazy now when I shop there to see how slowly they ring things up and basically just roll the clothes into a ball and shove them in a bag. And not just Macys - pretty much every store

I work at macys... lol and yes they are slow as poo. most of the time its because of the coupons. the $20 off $50 or the $15 off $40, and all the restrictions.
people know if they have a lot of items they will have the cashier ring up top what they think is $50 only to realize half the stuff they are purchasing doesn't qualify so they have to scan through the items.
I had a lady the other day do 14 transactions because of coupons and the worse was is each transaction needed her DL to look up her card because she forgot her card at home.
