Re: Is this rude?

For my family it would be completely rude and frowned on. I would think if your inviting anyone anywhere the least you can do is cake and coffee. Especially since those type of occasions are usually gift based, in my family/friends anyway.

Re: Is this rude?

I don't necessarily thing it's rude per say, but I just have never personally seen it done that way. Any type of Christening or Baptism or Communion type event that we've ever been invited to always had at least cake back at the parent's home afterwards. I wouldn't think it was rude if they didn't do this, just strange. Mostly because some people are probably traveling a bit to be there for it. I would think it would be nice to offer them something to eat and drink for coming to be there for it.

Is this rude?

I personally wouldn't ever do that. I've done two Hebrew namings for my daughters and both were followed by a nice brunch.

Re: Is this rude?

not sure if i would say "rude." i think i would say, not customary.

religion is something that most people want to share with the people who mean something to them. a religious ceremony would naturally fall under the umbrella of having fellowship tied into it, celebrating, gift giving, etc.

Is this rude?

After an event like that there is usually a party but if I'm planning a party no I'm not having anyone at my house.

If I invited people-which if I did it would only be immediate family then yes they'd be invited back to the house.

I don't know if it's rude, but I would definitely think it was a little strange to not have at least a little something - cake and coffee at least

I think its rude.
People are taking time out of their lives to witness an event that's important to me. I would never not thank them properly - by hosting them somehow - be it at a restaurant or at my home.

I don't think you have to take them to lunch but cake and coffee would be nice, especially if people are traveling

Yes, I think it's rude. As a pp said, people are taking time out of their busy lives to celebrate your occasion. Very inconsiderate not at least have coffee and cake.

I would definitley think it's weird to not have something after. You can keep it very simple with just coffee and cake if its a financial constraint. If I could not host something after I would not invite anyone but very close family and keep it extremely small. (I.e. Just Grandparents)

Thanks. That's sort of how I started to feel. It's not that they can't, they just don't want to - that they didn't want to buy meals..... Which I guess they are entitled to feel that way but it rubbed me the wrong way after thinking about it. Then it feels like a money grab almost, you know?

If they are expecting presents, then they should be hosting something afterwards.
