Overall, does the Internet bring more harm than good to society?

Gossip, narcissism, cyber-bullying, fear-mongering
vs
Educational information, news from numerous angles, groups to share common interests, support groups, etc.

I think it gives people a platform to speak, when they really should stay quiet. Or at least edit themselves. I have noticed, especially on controversial topics, that people spew so much vitriol and have no clue how it comes across on the Internet, and that it can spread like wildfire.

I say more harm than good. I think it's amazing for researching stuff. But, all of this social media is out of control.

I don't think the Internet itself, but I think social media does. I pretty much hate all social media and refuse to acknowledge its existence (except for IG). The showing off, misinformation, jealousy etc - it's out of control and I think it really has a negative impact, esp on young people.

I think the internet is a double edged sword...........it has its merits. I love having so much information at my fingertips. I love being able to shop from home, book trips, and research almost anything. On the flip side, I absolutely think we're creating a more self involved, narcissistic society and I think that is sad. The need for people to take 5 million selfies and post them for the world to throw them a "like" is kind of pathetic. But I guess with all of this technology you have to take the good with the bad.

ETA - I do NOT look forward to my children being teens in an age where everyone has some kind of social media acct and a phone with video and pic capabilities. Kids today have to worry about things that we never did and it scares me that my kid could be doing everything right and some a$$hole kid films them or takes some pic and can ruin them in a click of a button.

Definitely more harm for kids, for obvious reasons. But I think for adults too. Yes it is easy access to information but a lot of times it is misinformation, or partial information or harmful information. Its made identity theft easier. Its caused brick and mortar businesses to close down since so many people shop online. Its made some adults into bullies. Its made companies force employees to be available and working 24/7. And despite "social" media, its made people anti-social as people are holed up in their computers and not out talking and interacting with people.

I think it does more harm than good for children. I just don't think the current level of internet usage is necessary for kids.

For adults, it's close, but I think more good. The ability to work at home, conduct research on databases, check out events, find social media groups filled with people who have similar interests, etc., is a positive IMO.

The internet has changed our society in such a huge way. Probably up there with the wheel and the steam engine... seriously.

However, I also think it's going to be the downfall of our society as well (mostly social media related)

Think of the wealth of information at our fingertips at a moments notice.. that's amazing!

And then think of all the mis-information that is out there, and the damage that is caused by internet balls, trolls, bullying, drama, rumors, false news reporting, godddamn memes, political hatred, misspelling, people doing things just to get 'noticed', the complete disregard for grammar and sentence structure, stupid people made into celebrities for no reason at all.. the list can go on and on!

So, yay for the internet!
