What would it take for you to move out of state?
I would move tomorrow if I had a job. Nothing is holding me in any one place. I have moved so much in my life that it would be just another move for me. I always look at it as nothing is permanent so if I didn't like it I could move again.

Re: What would it take for you to move out of state?
Our families would have to come with us. With two kids and both DH and I working, I need that "safety net" of family nearby. And more importantly, I like living near (most of) our relatives. IMO Holidays, birthdays, and life events are meant to be shared.

We're doing this in 3 months. I was offered a transfer to my corporate office, so we're packing up the essentials and moving to FL. We're renting for the first year, until we get familiar with the area and decide where we want to lay our roots down. We've been itching to go for some time now, and when the opportunity presented itself, we jumped. I'll admit, the thought of not seeing my friends and family as often as we do now, and not knowing anyone except each other is daunting. But it's a great opportunity for my career. And now that we're moving, my parents have decided to become snow birds, so they'll be close by 4 months out of the year.

I honestly don't think I would. At least not while my kids are young. I have such a huge support of friends and family here, I can't imagine being away from them. I know that I could make new friends and I know for sure my kids could, but it would never be the same.
Same for me, also I have a pension to concern myself with and I would NEVER make what I make here so it would not be worth it for me to work elsewhere. DH could potentially make a lot more if we relocated though so the PP's response is our real reason.

Re: What would it take for you to move out of state?
We did it with an 8 month old and a 4 year old. Moved somewhere where we had no family or friends. My DH was offered a promotion and transfer so we did it. Part of what made it an easy decision was that we'd be living in an area with the #1 school district in the state. That plus the idea of better quality of life helped us make the decision. However, cost of living is virtually the same. I was a SAHM in NY though and am here too.We had thought about leaving NY one day but we'd never even thought about where. We made the decision quickly but luckily had a year (DH stayed in the NY office) to figure out the logistics and build our home. They gave him that year bc we made the decision and he moved to his new role when I was 8 months pregnant.

What would it take for you to move out of state?
I think I would need some family to be near me. I have alot of family in Raleigh, and it really is a beautiful area. My aunts and grandparents love it there, and seem much happier since moving there over 10 years ago.
ETA: I love the idea of moving there because of the cost factor, but I fear that if we moved and didn't like it, we could never move back and be able to afford it.

My DH and I would move tomorrow if we were able to easily secure a job.
My Dad is in AZ and my sister is in CA. We would move to CA to be near my sister which is also only a 6 hour car ride to my Dad.
We have other family and friends in NY but none that would stop me from moving to be close to my Dad and Sister.
DH's family is in FL so we have to travel to see them anyway,

My biggest concern is dh's job. He just found the perfect job for him last year. He doesn't know what is down there for hI'm but he has a call out to several recruiters who have reached out to him in the past. I refuse to move and worry about money.

Re: What would it take for you to move out of state?
We are strongly considering moving to Florida eventually. If it happens sooner than later, I would really want my parents to come (it would make sense financially for them too as they're very close to retirement and don't plan to retire in NY) because I can't imagine having young kids and zero help. Not to mention, we moved when I was in Jr high, so I know how it is to not have any family around. Definitely can be rough, especially at holidays, birthdays, etc.

Re: What would it take for you to move out of state?
DH can work from anywhere and I SAH. I just need the word from DH and I would be getting T actual FOH! I would rent out our home and rent a place in the new place. We could come visit whenever Bc of the job situation. Our money would be amazing any where else. Unfortunately DH would never leave here.

This is exactly the reason I would never sell our home. Just in case we want to come back.

My biggest issue is All my friends and family are here.
How are you at making new friends? I am not good at it. I moved off LI about 9 years ago and I feel like only now am making good friends, but it's really because I am 100% going out of my comfort zone.

If my ex wasn't in the picture I would look for a job in a warmer climate. Now that my dad moved I have no ties to home.

I'm very social but it takes me awhile to call someone a friend. My 8 girlfriends that I'm super close with I've known for a very long time. With that being said every state I've lived in I've made friends dh does not make friends easily so he tags along with me till he finds people he likes.

Re: What would it take for you to move out of state?
Honestly, right now, it would take quite a bit. It would have to be the opportunity of a lifetime ( like a CEO position for DH) and dome where I love like London or SF. We have moved a lot and have lived in quite a few states. Some I loved and some I have hated. Also, I am not from the northeast although I am from a major metro area. I actually really love it here. We live in on the water, in an amazing town and have made some awesome friends. The kids are really integrated into the community at this point. I love being in a small town where everyone knows each other yet I'm within a reasonable distance to the city to go out etc. I'm not sure I could find that anywhere else.
We have lived in places with much lower costs of living but, for me, the trade off was not worth it. However, everyone is different.
