Camp with pool but your kid isn't a swimmer?
Thoughts? My kids are learning how to swim but I still have them wear puddle jumpers. I learned to swim at camp but idk... Would you trust that they would properly watch and instruct them. Or no?

Camp with pool but your kid isn't a swimmer?
Dd1 is starting camp this summer. She will be 3. I'm a little nervous about the pool situation but I trust the camp and the lifeguards. That's how most kids learn to swim. But yes, I'm nervous.

Camp with pool but your kid isn't a swimmer?
Good question. My kids are not going to camp yet but just thinking about that gives me anxiety. I would ask a lot of questions and see if they can readily explain their procedures to your satisfaction. Dh was assistant director of a camp for years and he talks about how thorough the procedures were. When my 4yo was taking lessons at the y he thought they were so much less strict than he was used to. We were always there watching so it was fine for us but we even saw a kid waiting on the bench to start his lesson end up falling in the pool.

At my kids camp, they assess them before they are allowed in the pool and then split them among swimming skill. Non-swimmer, new swimmers, strong swimmers etc. They are lifeguards on duty + counselors.
Plus, there are two swim sessions a day, morning is lessons - everyone gets lessons by skill, even strong swimmers. 2nd session if free swim.

Does the camp provide swim lessons? If so, I wouldn't think twice. If not, I'd be sure to find out the procedure(s) in place for ensuring safety.

I worked at a camp. There were at least 2 lifeguards per pool. Then am swim was lessons. Pm swim was free swim. Plus there was a 3 to 1 ration of campers to camp counselors.

Re: Camp with pool but your kid isn't a swimmer?
I don't give a cr@p how many lifeguards there were. No way is my non swimming daughter going in a pool without me. What good is a lifeguard? She can't swim at all. So she goes in, sinks under water and needs to be rescued by some high school kid life guard? No effing way. Unless there was someone IN the water with her and one on one the ENTIRE time it's not happening. I don't trust high school kids they hire at these camps to watch my child in the water if I am not there. And as far as lessons, I would only allow her to take them with a certified instructor and in my presence. Not at camp. Too much risk IMO
