UPDATE on top....Car hit us and didn't stop.. what can we do?

Thank you everyone, I'm going to talk to my parents again. I'm 36 weeks pregnant, so they are just grateful that nothing happened, and I am too but it could have ended badly. I know they don't want to go through their insurance for this, but I think the driver should be slapped with a ticket or something.
that happened to my wife a few months ago. She also was/is pregnant.
She did call 911 and did get a plate number. Cop took the info. Did track down the driver eventually and issue her a summons. $250 ticket. Since my wife wasn't taken to a hospital by an ambulance, the girl wasn't arrested.
Howver, most of the leg work was done by the insurance company. We gave them the plate number and description of the accident, they were able to get the insurance info from the NYS database, file through the insurance company, got the girl to admit fault. and everything covered.
My wife has been doing physical therapy for months because of the accident and is getting a lot better.
Point is, file the police report, report to your insurance company with the plate number and things can happen.

I can't imagine how scared your wife must have been, and glad she is on the mend.
I wasn't the one driving the car, and my parents are turning this into a day time soap opera thinking about the 'what ifs" based on random conversations. I would love to do something.

I can totally see my MIL being this way..making up scenarios.
people are ballsy and it has nothing to do with whether they are a cop or military or may be related to one..LOL. People just suck in general.
I've been the victim of 2 hit and run car accidents.
thankfully there was no damage or physical injuries.

Was there actually any damage done to the car?
I don't see the big deal if there was no damage done to the car. Of course if there was damage and your parents are out money, that is a whole other situation.
