Last minute company....

We were supposed to go to DH's friend's house tomorrow and it got moved to our house last minute. Aside from my house being a mess (guess I'm not sleeping tonight) now I need to feed everyone.

Do you think it'll be warm enough to eat outside? Our cast iron patio furniture is in the garage and a b!tch to move.

I think it might be easiest to order in food. They're coming at 3. Ideas? I don't think sandwiches are sufficient since they'll be here during dinnertime.

ETA I have dietary restrictions on my hands....

2 who "don't eat anything"
1 gluten free
1 vegetarian who does not like cheese or vegetables

I don't think it's warm enough to eat outside to be honest. It's only supposed to be in the 50's isn't it? We sat outside yesterday around that time and were freezing!

That's what I said. Too cold. And I really, REALLY don't want to drag that furniture out!

Last minute company....

I wouldn't want to eat outside. Not warm enough.

I'd put out some apps for when they arrive. I love the trader joes apps. They're my go to and everyone always raves about them.

Then I'd order in Italian. Tray of baked ziti, chicken/eggplant parm, salad, garlic bread/knots. Etc.

Chinese?
How many people? If it isn't a lot, you can just have a few menus/websites ready vote on which one to order from when they get there.

Re: Last minute company....

It's too cold to eat outside so just keep it indoors and don't worry about your patio furniture.

I think you should order in, but based on the dietary restrictions I'd possibly consider telling these weirdos to bring their own food. Chat Icon But seriously, gluten free AND a vegetarian who doesn't like cheese OR veggies? I'd be at a loss to put something together on short notice for that.

Tacos could be a possibility. Ortega and old El paso are both gluten free, make black beans, corn, guacamole, rice and let people pick and choose.

Pasta may also work. Barilla gf pasta is really good. Make sauce, meatballs with gf breadcrumbs or sausage on the side. Add a salad and call it a day.

My question is, what does a vegetarian who doesn't eat veges or cheese actually eat? Pasta and beans all day everyday?

This is what I would do. I agree...Barilla GF pasta is very good. Just make a plain sauce and I would do meatballs on the side with GF Breadcrumbs. Stay away from sausage because some casing is not GF. Side salad and some garlic bread - again, separate so it doesn't affect the GF guest.

Don't put the dressing directly on the salad - some dressings have ingredients that are not GF.

And for your vegetarian friend who doesn't eat veggies....well that person needs to be smacked. Chat Icon Seriously...what's left?? They must live on chocolate and pretzels.

I had a vegetarian friend in HS who pretty much only ate french fries & rice. Chat Icon

Seriously? A last minute hustle to clean AND pain in the ass eaters? I'm irritated for you. I think the suggestion of making sauce with meatballs and pasta and a salad is the easiest. I'm a huge fan of ordering food but with all of your restrictions, you are going to have to order different things and then its going to get costly. Unless you don't care about that. Then I would throw a menu on a table and say tell me what you want and call it a day.

Seriously. This sounds like a picky 3 year old who just never grew out of that phase. Does the person put ketchup on everything too?

OMG I was just talking to a co-worker who didn't want to go out to sushi because they are vegeterian.. so I said ok, can't you have a salad? "No, I don't like veggies".. like.. what?! LOL. I asked what he eats and he said.. pizza, quesadillas.

You guys are cracking me up. When I had the same group of friends over for a BBQ last year I had DH ask his friend what his wife would eat and he said "She'll eat buns." BUNS.

To clarify, these are DH's friends. They are not my friends. My friends get drunk and eat whatever is put in front of them.

Haha this sounds like DH's family. My IL's will only eat iceberg or romaine lettuce on a salad and don't like any dressing and my SIL is a vegetarian who hates most vegetables and cheese.

We usually end up ordering from the local diner when they visit and then they can pick whatever they want. Is that an option by you?

If not how about mediterranean or Indian?

Place a few menus on the table and walk away. Let everyone make a decision. Have drinks and some snacks and just order in

I agree. I would put out a few apps from trader joes like a pp mentioned and then just wait for them to figure out what to order for dinner.

Agree with lots of what was posted. I'd grab a veggie platter and some app type food and order in. Chinese, mexican or italian. Good luck lol, I know how difficult it is to try to deal with various dietary needs!
