Re: pls dont quote
That is really, seriously horrible of the BP.
I think that you should host a small luncheon with the 10-15 closest friends and exclude the bridal party. I think you should be up front and honest with them about what you are doing and tell them that the bride is really upset and you can't afford to host a shower alone and invite everyone.
I seriously hate weddings and all the drama that goes along with them. I always say that weddings bring out the worst in people.

I would just host close friends at your apt for 10-15 friends. The guest list shouldn't be 50 since the BP and family won't be attending.

I agree. Keep it small and simple. A weekend in Miami could really add up expense wise, plus she really wants a shower with gifts, things for her home, etc.

For what it's worth, if you do it small, make it cute and fancy! Tea party?

I agree and, in order to avoid stepping on toes, why not stay away from calling it bridal shower altogether and instead call it something like "Party for the Bride-to-Be" or "Pre-Wedding Soiree." Make it cool and untraditional, and limit it to friends.

Re: pls dont quote
Her BP doesn't want to throw her a shower because the bride and her FH don't have a place together yet? Am I really understanding that correctly?? Did they not register? This is so awful of this BP to do. Shame on them!
I like the idea of telling the BP the plan and they can either pitch in or stay home. I would tell them how upset the bride is and how she DESERVES a shower regardless of her living situation. Thank God you are her MOH.

I wouldn't take her to Miami.
I would do what you are already planning; a small, intimate shower/get together/tea party. However you want to call it. And hopefully some things come off her registry.
Its a total shame that her future husbands family is against giving or even participating in a shower. It truly doesn't make sense to me. I hope these aren't her future sister in laws. Poor girl.
Any reason why her mom or her future MIL will not step in and get involved in this like at all??? Or is there tension between families? I wish her the best.

Re: pls dont quote
These people really suck!!!
I would do something small like 10 people and not invite any of them.
or
Plan an amazing spa day just the two of you and go somewhere really special for lunch or dinner, give her wedding night lingerie, a honeymoon bag, etc so she gets all that cutesy stuff. Her family is horrid.
What did your friend do for her piece of crap sisters when they got married I would love to know!!!!!

....
I agree with a tea party or something small. The BP's reasoning makes no sense at all!
Quick story, I'm not a fan of sprinkles but I have a friend who delivered her first child SUPER early so at her baby shower she wasn't pregnant and had a micro premie in the NICU fighting for his life. When she got pregnant with her second another friend and I decided that we wanted to do something special for her. Not necessarily a sprinkle, because again I'm against them, but more because of what she went through last time and it was HUGE that she got as far as she did the 2nd pregnancy. We went to Tavern 18 for brunch and got a reserved table of 11 people. It was PERFECT! Small and intimate. Everyone paid their own way but it was still a celebration and we each got her a little something for the new baby.
Just an idea that you can do something that isn't a huge payout but you can still just do a small something that is just a sit down bunch/lunch without getting a private room.

Re: ....
I would have a couple of her friends over, or everyone could meet at a restaurant and split the cost for the bride to be, and all else pay their own way. My family is against baby showers as we are jewish. So my friends coordinated having everyone go out to lunch and they gave me presents.
