Bridal Shower ?
My sister is getting married this fall OOT. My family is refusing to attend the wedding because of where the wedding is being held. I'm the MOH so now I feel like the bridal shower will be my responsibility. Do you think it would be wrong of me to ask the other bridal party members to pitch in? I know we still have several months to go but again the party will be OOT and I just want to get organized so I know how much I need to save for this.
Also, how far in advance from the wedding is a bridal shower usually held? I'm due two weeks after her wedding so if possible I'd like to plan the bridal shower towards the end of summer so its not so much traveling back and forth that close to my due date.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Bridal Shower ?
I have been in bridal parties where the MOB pays, where the bridal party has paid, and a combination of both. I think anything is acceptable as long as it's a reasonable amount of money and people have advanced notice. And I think a summer shower is fine for a fall wedding.

Bridal Shower ?
Talk to the girls and ask them what they can reasonably pay. Ive been in tons of weddings and have paid or chipped in for showers.

Re: Bridal Shower ?
I am MOH in a friends wedding. this is my first wedding I am in. I asked the bride to let me know if her mom was paying for the majority of the shower or the bridal party was. the bridal party is paying for it and I had the bride let the other bridesmaids know.
one of the bridesmaids (who I am good friends with) said this is like her 7th wedding she is in and she never had to pay for the shower. so guess it really depends.
we are having it toward the end of July her wedding is the beginning of October.

Re: Bridal Shower ?
Every wedding I have ever been in, the moms and bridal party split the cost of the shower. The MOH is not expected to pay for the entire shower. Honestly I think that concept is just ridiculous. A shower ends p being several thousand dollars when all is said and done. It shouldn't be the responsibility of one person to bear that cost. I would contact the rest of the bridal party and let them know that you will all be splitting it and try to keep costs down as much as possible.
Most of the showers I have been to have been around 2 - 3 months prior to the wedding.

Thanks for all your responses. It's my sister getting married and since my parents want nothing to do with the wedding I wasn't sure if I should be the one to pick up the cost because I know my parents won't pick up any of it. I just didn't want to start any drama with the other members of the bridal party over this but since we are expecting a baby right after the wedding it was going to be a little tight with money. Thanks again

Talk to the bridal party. It is not unheard of where the bridal party chips in for the shower.

Re: Bridal Shower ?
It is usually the mother of bride and/or bridesmaids.
In my experience, when the bridal party pays, at least one bridesmaid is disgruntled with the cost. If it is OOS, not all the bridesmaids may be able to attend.
I have paid for and attended friends only showers. When extended family is invited, the family almost always pays. Not sure what the split between mom and sisters are.
I was once in a bridal party and the bride's family member emailed me a bill. It was through her small business and I thought it would be a gift. I ended up just paying it because it was so awkward. I figured the mom told the family member to bill me since she sent it to me and not to the mom, sister or cousins in the bridal party.

Bridal Shower ?
If it was my sister and my mom refused to pay I would probably pay for the entire shower myself. I've been in several weddings and have never been asked to chip in.

Re: Bridal Shower ?
I have been in a bunch of weddings and I would say I paid for something for 75% of them. A few the BP split everything down the middle. A few the mom paid and each BM paid for something...invitations, favors, etc.
