Where would you/have you traveled alone?

With two kids and a full time job, I am more or less fantasizing.

So where would you/have you traveled alone?

I recently was thinking about how I would love to get away by myself when I realized that I never really have.

I've done a lot of traveling but always with someone else, other than travel for work, which really doesn't count.

The closest I've come to traveling alone were a few trips that I met up with a friend (we met halfway) and I did some exploring on my own before she arrived.

To answer my own question, I would like to explore a fun city on my own. To be able to see a museum, sit in a park, etc. without worrying about what someone else wants to do. I had a day to myself in Chicago before I met up with a friend and it was awesome. I couldn't wait to see her, but I knew I would want to do some things that would not interest her.

Re: Where would you/have you traveled alone?

I feel like the only place I'd really feel comfortable traveling alone would be like a resort with a beach/pool etc- and I'd just lay on the beach or by the pool all day, drink cocktails, read and relax.

I'm not a big fan of eating alone in restaurants etc.
I'd be lonely I think!

When I was having a hard time with some things and just needed to get away, I went to Sanibel Island by myself - it was awesome! I was a little nervous at first, but it was a really great trip.

I have done the same as you - met up with friends in Chicago and had a couple of days to spend by myself. I love it there and enjoyed doing things on my own.

A good friend of mine went to a resort in the Dominican Republic by herself. She wound up meeting a group of women who were on a "girls trip" that she spent some time with. She had a great time.

Re: Where would you/have you traveled alone?

Honestly, I would go almost anywhere alone. I am very social and love taking trips with family and friends, but I also love my alone time. I'm off on Fridays while my kids are at school and my DH is at work. It's practically my favorite day of the week. Lol
If i had the opportunity to travel alone I would jump on it. I would probably feel safest on a cruise, only because I feel like people would know you're missing. But that wouldn't stop me from going to a big city or a beach resort. I would just be very aware of my surroundings, especially when walking to my room alone.
When I graduated college I went to Europe alone, but on a tour. I had my own room everywhere. It was so nice to be part of the group when I wanted to, but I was still able to go off on my own whenever I chose.

I would probably travel alone to somewhere where there is a lot of sightseeing to keep myself busy, like Rome... I think I would feel bored/lonely otherwise.

This. I love a day by myself, and jump at the chance for a pool day or a massage when DH has DD, but I do not like eating alone. I will avoid it at all costs.
When I was 16 I went to France. stayed with a friend in Marseille, and then got stuck in Paris for 2 days trying to fly home. No better place to be and I hated it. My french is limited and I had no one to talk to.

My husband loves to travel alone. He's literally been everywhere solo.

Me: I take an extra day for work trips... So:
Vegas
Chicago
Minneapolis
New Orleans
Galveston

Now, with kids, I travel much less.
I'd say Philly sounds great for you (I loved the museums). I have friends who live there, so I never do it solo.

I've been to Florida, DC, Philly and Boston on my own. I also did Dublin for a day on my own--broke away from the group I was with and did my own thing.

I could go anywhere with a beach and be happy by myself for a few days or a week. Big cities just a day or two because I would like meal time companions after that.

one summer off from college i backpacked europe (6 countries) alone. It was one of the best experiences i've ever had and so glad i did it. I doubt in this day and age i'd do it considering what's going on. but i made some lifelong friends along the way and i cherish the memories and photos (that i took on film lol!!!)

I've only ever traveled to meet people places alone, which totally doesn't bother me. I actually love solo road trips because I love to drive and listen to whatever I want.

Re: Where would you/have you traveled alone?

That's a great question. I don't think I have traveled by myself, but always to meet a friend in some place. If I wanted to, I'd do it to a beach, just because I love that plan and would love to have time to relax, read, drink cocktails, etc.

A very good friend who is divorced is going away in a week by herself, when the kids have spring break (another story, but she can't travel with her DC). She is going to Isla Mujeres, a place close to Cancún, for a week. Her plan will be pool and beach. That is a plan I would do.

Where would you/have you traveled alone?

I have been to San Francisco, LA, Nashville, St Thomas, FL by myself.

Most were for business trips that I took some extra time for myself.

I would go on a retreat, like a spa and fitness retreat. I'm not the type to just sit on a beach for extended periods of time and I think I would get lonely sightseeing in a city by myself.

Where would you/have you traveled alone?

I went to study abroad as a junior in college alone, meaning no one I knew but obviously I was a part of a program and once I got to Italy I met the group and made new friends. I was the only person who went alone though everyone else went with at least one friend. It was a great experience.

I did the same exact thing, except I went to London. Knew no one going on the trip, but met the group at the airport. It was a great experience.

Same -- I met people when I arrived at school, wasn't a formal program.

I've also been to Boston, Dallas and London solo, and I went to Ireland alone and joined a tour group for a week.

I wouldn't feel comfortable traveling alone anywhere. However, a nice weekend to myself at Woodbury Common outlets sounds sooooo appealing.

Oh, just remembered, I also went skiing by myself 2 years ago. Drove up to Massachusetts and stayed 2 nights, by myself because DH doesn't ski and even though he said he would come and hang out in the lodge, I knew he really didn't want to, and my usual ski buddy friend had injured her foot, so she couldn't come. I had a nice, relaxing time and really enjoyed myself.
