I'm a nervous person when it comes to getting places on time, especially the airport so I usually arrive 2 hours early for international flights.

Five is fine. Even if security takes an hour (which it never does) that leaves you 30 minutes to get to your gate before they begin boarding.

if you dont have tsa precheck, get there @5. youre even safe with 5:30 at that time in the day. better to be early than late

At that time of day, 5:30 is fine. I'd probably be closer to 6 but I like to live on the edge rather than sit in an airport for too long

I would go on the earlier side 5am - sometimes security takes longer early in the AM since they don't have as many lanes open.

No way. The airport can get very busy this early in the morning b/c all the airlines have their first flights of the day. Lines are long that early in the morning.

Honestly better and less stress to be early than late.
I'd rather sit at the gate and relax for an hour if need be then be running for it and worried I'm going to miss my flight.
Grab a coffee, some breakfast, and relax

I usually do 3 hrs before international flights. I'm on the east end so I always leave early. You never know with traffic. I enjoy my coffee and breakfast while I wait. I don't like rushing

I usually do 2 hours for international flights at JFK.
Once you check your bag, it's kind of difficult to miss your flight. It causes more problems if your bag is on the plane and you are not.

I've done the Aeromexico 7am flight twice now. Usually get to the airport around 5:15. This terminal is usually dead so check in and security is quick. You spend more time sitting waiting to board.

The Today Show has a segment this morning as well. They said that the TSA is way understaffed and waits at airports are going to be really bad. They said to get there at least 2 hours early for domestic flights. They showed a wait line at O'Hare that was 55 minutes and that was a "good day"! 
I'd always rather get there early and have to wait, than be rushing and crazed that I might miss the flight

Also, remember that this Friday and Saturday are going to be busier than usual~! Some districts have Spring break next week and the week after that

Yup, we recently flew out of ISP on a 6am flight. Security lines there are usually non existent, but it was about 45 minutes long! MANY people were called over the PA with their 10 minute warning, and ended up missing their flights because they just couldn't get through fast enough.

This was on Good Friday though, so maybe it was just extra busy because of holiday traffic? I'm flying out of there tomorrow morning, so we'll see!
